Keep it up for just a little while more, Guy, and you will learn
the meaning of "attack".

Good Luck!

Well of course! You *know* that Doc Brown always comes back!

Thanks,

That's the point I am trying to get across. It is foolish to allow
someone else to control where your posts go, and even more foolish to

Point well taken. When you are right, you are right, and this is
clearly a case where you are right and I was wrong.

My apologies to the esteemed Mr. Grise.

Thank you, Guy. I accept your apology in all seriousness.
Please pay no attention to those little boys playing behind my
various nyms.

In the spirit of good will, of course, I'll make an earnest effort
to keep the Rich Grise persona focused on technical matters, unless the
subject line is clearly marked 'OT:' or the thread has been extant for
such a long time that even our Grand Masters are opining.

Deal?

Thought so. :) I agree too. :)

Thanks!

Actually, I very much appreciate your use of nyms. It allows me to
make a choice; read the fun/foolish things or the serious things.
I wish others followed your policy.

I'm not about to clutter this group with more nonsense. You are quite
good at starting flame wars, then sitting back and laughing as it roars

He's not laughing. He's terrified. I once[1] was where he is,
psychologically/socially - Guy Macon is still a Nerd. The Classic
Geek, who hasn't yet moved out of the dorm room, emotionally.

You are a troll.
Lighten up! He's only a Nerd. And Nerds are not only about the most
welcome people there are around s.e.d, but they're about the only
people who would even be interested in lurking and/or participating
at sci.electronics.design.

We're Grownups! We can take a little ribbing now and then! :)

I'd advise folks who are thinking of trying this
new strategy to look over Guy's recent 'contributions' to this group.
Yeah, yeah, covered that just recently.

I stated the facts as I see them. You are free to characterize them any
way you wish, and to attempt to mislead readers. That is the essence of
an unmoderated newsgroup.
Yup. There ya are. Need you say more? ;-P ;-P ;-P

What I stated is true. Any post cross-posted to your silly little
kingdom can be edited or prohibited by you, regardless of your
protestations to the contrary. You can stop posts to an unmoderated
newsgroup if they have been cross-posted.
Now _you're_ being petulant. Don't do that! (and BTW, FYI, there's
no way he can stop some other person's post to an unmoderated
newsgroup even if it _has_ been crossposted. What he _might_ be
able to do is spoof some headers and do in-line editing, much
like I'm doo\^H^Ho^Hing rith^H^Hght now. ;-J )

Go away. Please.
Hey! I've got an idea! Let's all go out and play
"Hide-n-go fuck yourself"!

You are wasting everyone's time.
You presume to speak for "everyone"? Can you name those for whom you
speak? Thanks.

Actually, at this
point, by replying to you, I'm wasting folks time.
Bullshit! I'm having the time of my life! What are my options? Watch
TeeVee? ;^J <- BTW, if anybody hasn't figured out that smiley yet,
turn your head leftwise, such that this <-- is up. [Damn! Come to
think of it, that's the way most ASCII smileys are read already!
Never mind. -- ed.]

I'll not comment
further. Feel free to have the last word.
OK! ;-D ;-D ;-D

Also, given your propensity for attempting to mislead people by

enough for this task. You have no honor.

He also set a Follow-Up-to dev.null in a message to you, Bob.
If you had replied to that msg your reply would have been thrown in the
waste bin in your own computer, and would never have been published in
the newsgroup. It could have locked up your computer or caused some
strange problem.

Such dirty tricks do we not expect, and especially not from somebody
who thinks he is qualified to be a moderator.

We have to keep an eye on the headers as long as he is around.

If he tries to crosspost messages between his moderated group and free
newsgroups...
Actually, I kinda think that setting followups-to to, well, dev.null
might be a little extremem - thank The Great Roulette Wheel In The
Sky that it wasn't /dev/null! ;-) - but setting it to something like
alt.null is actually kind of clever - it lets you get the last word
in a thread, except for those who are astute enough to notice, _and_
who care to participate in the little sandbox pissing contest. O:)

Thanks!

You should try taking responsibility for where your posts go rather
than letting other people control you. I believe that XanaNews
makes the newsgroups line fully visible and fully editable. It is
rather foolish to allow the person you are replying to to make the
decisions as to where your reply is posted, and even more foolish
to whine about the consequences of your bad choices.
Yeah, but it's kinda fun to watch when there's nothing on TeeVee.

It could have locked up your computer or caused some strange problem.

Why is it that the folks who do the most flaming are the ones who
always seem to make the technical blunders when they post? Is it
because they are so consumed with flaming that they ave spent a
lifetime being unable to learn?
Yeah, that's it.

I challenge you to name a single newsreader that will "lock up your
computer" or "cause some strange problem" because of a followup set
to alt.dev.null.
Guh-hyuk!

I clearly remember someone who got problems with his computer or the
newsreader program after being alt.dev.nulled, so to speak. I have seen
that trick being applied a number of times, and sometimes it does not
only cause despair and confusion for the person who tries to reply,
which is probably what you intended.
It could only happen to a Dozer.

Correlation does not prove causation. You have no idea why that
computer had problems. There are many causes of computer problems,
and it is a fallacy to assume you know that X causes Y just because
X happened after Y one time.
You know that the antismokerists will have you burned at the stake
before they'll ever admit to that.

This is assuming ...

Alas, Supernews gives me a "newsgroup does not exist" error for alt.null.
Alt.dev.null is a real newsgroup, and thus does not throw an error.

There really aren't that many that are _that_ annoying, and I admit I
have the time to spare to go ahead and scan stuff and figure out if a
thread is taking a direction I don't like, and just shift-click mark as
read the rest of the thread, and go on to enjoy the rest of the day's

Guilty as charged. (You, of course, defy catagorization) :)

FYI, there's no way he can stop some other person's

You are incorrect. If someone crossposts between a moderated
newsgroup and an unmoderated newsgroup, the moderator can
approve or reject the post. That's how alt.dev.null works;
it is simply a moderated newsgroup that rejects every post.

What he _might_ be able to do is spoof some headers and do
in-line editing
Emphasis on "Might be able to." Both are against my moderation
policy. If someone posts something, they should be able to
expect that their words not be altered. That's why the title
is "moderator" and not "editor."

I'll not comment
further. Feel free to have the last word.

Alas, they have a habit of suddenly injecting a post about electronics
design into a political flamewar, so you have to scan the whole thing
if you don't want to miss the on-topic part. :(
