We are going to need to say this over and over again: "Bush

This is a very cogent argument for getting rid of government funded
illiteracy mills (aka public schools). There never was public education.
Education is the most private thing possible. We may be publically
-schooled- (mis-schooled is more like it) but we are all self educated.
Understanding and enlightenment must be achieved by individual effort.

Parents should decide for their children whether they want their kids
raised in a rational tradition or have their heads stuffed full of
religious shit. It is not a government decision.

This is really interesting. Now anybody with wit or talent can become
famous with a little simple blogging software. And now any crackpot
can find "documentation" to support his lunatic beliefs.

But you see this in all its glory in sci.physics. Now observe, like
I have for the last 10 years, the trends of how people work on
both sides of the crank farm.

Ok, but I'm not on the C.P sice of the crank farm (but I am on the AFC
side of that farm;-)

Oh, good grief! You're my Keith? I dismissed the possibility
because, even though the post bottom was familiar, the post top
wasn't. Now I have to go check and compare tops.
"My"? Well, I suppose so. ;-) The "from" changes some depending on
how I have the particular system I'm using set up. I've never
remembered how I have each set up, so I gave up trying to keep it all
synchronized. I sign everything the same though.

Next serious goal: destruction of the paid scientific journals.

That won't work. What is getting done, is dumbing down the next
generation of those who will be paid to submit to those journals. It
will take two generations to destroy the work if no messes occur. Go
reread everything reany has written. He's been at it for three (I think)
years. Hint: ignore all the big words that sound like it's coming from
a high-brow philosophy class. Now go listen to a math and science high
school class in a school where the moral majority has taken power.

Oh, BS. I've always lived in areas where they laugh the "Moral Majority"
types out of town, or at least under tables.

And their strategy changed to no declaration of this bias. This
started happening fairly early. These are not stupid people like
the Democrats who think that using a different word for the
same actions will fool all the people all the time.
I think they found they had no support, even from those who are
nominally friendly to their position. I don't think they (the
creationist branch of the right) have been much of a power for 20
years, if they ever were. As usual the mainstream press saw a bogeyman
and sounded the alarm. ...rather like global warming. ;-)

..Math and science
teaching is abysmal everywhere!

Hint: all teaching is abysmal. Kids can't count, read, write,
print or tie their shoelaces.
Our education system works so well, perhaps we *should* have the MM
teach creationism. ;-)

..The teacher's unions are dumbing down
education because *they* are. We live in one of the "best" school
districts in the state, yet the HS biology teacher didn't have any
credentials in biology, and didn't know a corn plant from a house-
kitty. There is no accountability for teachres, there is no feedback, thus
it's a system that is a couple of generations out of control. It has
*nothing* to do with the "moral majority".

Moral majority's strategy was to put people in places where
the decisions (of who to hire, what books to buy, which classes
get funded) are made.
Sure, but outside some rather well publicized instances I don't think
this idea went vary far. OTOH, consider what the ones who *do*
purchase the books and set the curriculum _have_ done to education.

In order to "teach" proper science, you
need to hire teachers who can't tell the difference between
science and religion.
Agreed, and I don't have any problem with teaching both, as long as the
difference is clear. In fact the difference is itself worth studying.
BTW, I get into this discussion with S all the time. She can't
separate the two either. ...perhaps intellectually, but not
emotionally.

Combine this with the socialism (which
immediately turns into a communism) that unions bring and you

"My" sounds a lot better than "the only Keith in my life at the
moment"; it also reduces the typing to two characters.

Sigh! They didn't need support from outsiders. Most people are more
than willing to let some other guy do the work; school boards
are elected in a lot of places.

.. I don't think they (the
creationist branch of the right) have been much of a power for 20
years, if they ever were. As usual the mainstream press saw a bogeyman

I don't get my information from the mainstream press. I get my
information from people who are Christian who are determined
to have their kids learn about the "right things". My mother
gets her science training from sermons (which match most of
what the guy called reany in this newsgroup says). These
churches have evolved to the point where everybody has to get
paid to do any work for the congregation. So the solution
to sermonizing is to move this training into the schools.
They are currently claiming that creationism should get
"equal rights" in science classes. Please note all of the
words that get politicians elected; their usage isn't an
accidient. I just heard of another ivory tower flavor who
is insisting that "intelligent creation" be included in
science classes. No Scientific Method is to be used to
analyze this shit.
..Math and science

Take the unions out and the ed. system would have a warm bootstrap.
Pay particular attention to the attempts of basing funding on
performance.

Agreed, and I don't have any problem with teaching both, as long as the
difference is clear.
But Christians have a problem with splitting the two into
separate classes. For some strange reason, they see science
as the enemy. I'm beginning to think about a "lemming gene"
in people.

.. In fact the difference is itself worth studying.
BTW, I get into this discussion with S all the time. She can't
separate the two either. ...perhaps intellectually, but not
emotionally.
My sister told me that she would "correct" all science teaching
her kids got. I told her that the Bible said that God created
all things but it didn't say how he did it." And then I bought
a gift subscription of "Science News" for my nephew. Turned out
the whole family read each issue.
Combine this with the socialism (which
immediately turns into a communism) that unions bring and you
have a mess.

Socialism is a religion.

Socialism is enforcing equality on everybody else without
the reincheck of freedom.

That's the way it should be.
But in order to be truly equal, it must be an obscure creation myth
from a religion to which none of the students nor faculty belong.
