Back when I was young and handsome and fresh out of school, UltraMegaCorp paid me a signing bonus to start work.

Forty years later they paid me a bigger pile of cash to go away and never come back.

Maybe it was something I said?  Or my MAGA hat?

Yah, it's called "Republican taxpayer privilege". The

Who cares about income tax?

In all but the USA, it's the main tax most pay in the first
world. Only the unemployable dregs like you pay most
of the tax they pay in the VAT and fuel and sin taxes.

It's one of only 50 taxes.

What matters is how much you pay in each one.

VAT is 20%! You will eventually spend all you earn,

Plenty of the better paid don't.

Nobody accumulates money forever.

Plenty with a clue accumulate it till they stop working
and plenty accumulate it and hand it on to their kids too.

If they don't spend it their descendants will.

Plenty of their descendents arent stupid enough to spend it.

If what you were saying was true, there would be an ever
increasing number
of people with huger and huger amounts of money.

so that's 20% which is significantly similar to the income
tax rate.

Not with the better paid. Only the dregs of the labour
market.

If you're poor, you pay a low rate,

Yes, the dregs mostly do pay just VAT and petrol and sin taxes.

if you're rich, you bend the rules and pay a low rate.

Not even possible for most of the better paid wage slaves.
Those pay a lot more than 20% income tax.

Nope,

Yep.

once you get really rich you get accountants that fiddle things
nicely.

We werent discussing the really rich.

We only pay more than 20% on anything we earn over Ł46,351. That's
really rich buggers, I can't think of anyone earning that
much. They can afford accountants to cheat.

You're mixing in the wrong circles. One of my friends in the UK,
Folkestone to be precise, earns well over Ł100,000 per annum.
Others earn slightly lesser amounts. One of my friends here, until
he retired recently, was earning Ł150,000 for 6 months work. It
has to be said, both those aforementioned are highly qualified in
their respective fields.

That's more than the prime minister gets paid.

Wrong.

Last time I checked (admittedly 10 years ago) it was Ł100K. I
remember, because at that time the rector of a local uni was getting
Ł130K which was absurd in comparison.
Nobody should be earning that much.

Plenty do anyway.

Hardly anyone in fact.

The average UK wage is a fraction of that

Their problem.

and we should all be paid a similar amount.

That stupid approach provides no incentive to get qualified for the
much better paid jobs.

Some people like to work in comfy desk jobs where they don't have any
physical effort. A bank manager expends less energy than a
bricklayer, he should therefore get paid less.

Prick.

There's a nurse that lives in my street. She honestly thought one of my kittens was ill because it was "small". I pointed out that kittens are smaller than cats and she was really confused. I guess she doesn't work in the ward where people give birth and hasn't had to learn that fucking obvious fact.

That might have worked in the past, say 200 years ago. It no longer does
as many roles are way too technical.

Like my mate, recently retired,
who is an *inspector*. A hazardous area, gaseous environment inspector,
to be precise. This is what happens without people like him on the job;

https://www.simien.com/assets/simiensimien/media/images/blog/fire-on-oil-rig-blog.jpg

Oh, one entire oil rig, not a whole country then?

That one rig fire took out 10% of the UK supply of gas and oil. That has
a knock on effect on the entire UK economy.

Shit happens.

Oh and a whole 10%? Not the whole country then. And only the gas and oil, not everything else.

Like my mate, recently retired, who is an *inspector*. A hazardous

happens without people like him on the job;

We werent discussing the really rich.

We only pay more than 20% on anything we earn over Ł46,351.
That's
really rich buggers, I can't think of anyone earning that much.
They

You're mixing in the wrong circles. One of my friends in the UK,

Others
earn slightly lesser amounts. One of my friends here, until he

That's more than the prime minister gets paid.  Nobody should be
earning
that much.  The average UK wage is a fraction of that and we
should
all
be paid a similar amount.

Why? He is getting paid *what he is worth*. He put in the time and
effort studying and gaining experience on the ground to get where
he is
and if people are willing to pay him appropriately for his work,
then
that is up to him. I put in 12 years at uni and decades in trade
relevant study and qualifications but you think a labourer

the same pay as I? You need to get real.

I don't care what job you do, it's less important than running the

There's a nurse that lives in my street.  She honestly thought one of my

smaller than cats and she was really confused.  I guess she doesn't work

get
the same pay as I? You need to get real.

I don't care what job you do, it's less important than running the
entire country.

You tell that to the people who are looking for specific skillsets.
They
seem to think the people are worth it.

Aren't those companies capable of just teaching their workers what
to
do?
Anybody could do the below when told how to. We should remove all
education (especially when it's paid for by the taxes of people who
don't
even have kids) and just have people learning on the job. Start off
as
a
plumber's mate, he shows you what he's doing, then you follow suit.

Doesn't work when designing aircraft, stupid.

Or even when doing a brexit either.

Or with doctors either.

Never seen a student nurse?

They don't learn everything from the other nurse.

They could

Nope, makes no sense at all to have 1/1 teaching with the theory.

You could have 1 to 4. One nurse doing stuff to a patient, 4 watching.

That's not the THEORY.

and should.

Ditto.

They do lots of theory now, and have full degrees now.

What a waste of time.

Nope.

You learn ten times faster from practical experience.

Like hell you do with the theory. And you need the theory so the nurse
knows what to do when something new happens with the patient.

Seeing it in a textbook just ain't the same as the real thing.

Pity about the THEORY.

Like my mate, recently retired, who is an *inspector*. A hazardous
area, gaseous environment inspector, to be precise. This is what
happens without people like him on the job;

Oh, one entire oil rig, not a whole country then?

No PM runs an entire country, stupid.

That's their job.

Pigs arse it is. The most they do is have some say on what changes to
the
law happen.

Which is running the country.

Pigs arse it is. Those running business and doing other stuff do that.

If only.

Fraid so.

That one rig fire took out 10% of the UK supply of gas and oil. That has
a knock on effect on the entire UK economy.

Shit happens.

Oh and a whole 10%?  Not the whole country then.  And only the gas and
oil, not everything else.

10% affects the whole country, even if only in pricing.

.... and, I'm guessing, in a much wider market than just the UK!!
