Well if you insist on mis-spelling it, I suppose you may be
right!

P.S. The city in Dänemark is "Křbenhavn" and it's on "Seeland".
;-)

Not according to the old maps I referred to. Nor many, if not
most of the references on the internet I scanned. 1167AD and
while spellings do change, I think it was at least as old and
quite possibly older than the later versions. However I am not
arguing! I am pointing out a alternate possible logically sound
interpretation!

Seesh! You would think it was an election!

I spent about 7 weeks of the last year working in Eloy---between
Phoenix and Tucson. I must confess that the June and August
weeks were uncomfortably hot while sitting out in the drop zone
waiting for the autonomously guided parachutes to fall from the
sky. OTOH, I think it was the May trip where I had to slow
to 40 on the freeway due to heavy rains---which caused flooding
in the streets near my sister's home north of Phoenix. I think
I personally witnessed one of those 7 inches of precipitation.

Climate is what you wish you had---weather is what you get.

Phoenix weather IS terrible. I don't know why people keep moving
here. Please warn your friends ;-)

So, where in the world is the original Zealand?

The largest island of Denmark and the site of Copenhagen

Can't use Google?

Zeeland is a province of the Netherlands. That is the origin of the
name.

Best regards,
Spehro Pefhany

It must piss down rain there all the time too. Or maybe Tasman saw the
fjords and the glaciers and thought it was pretty neat.

Perhaps---but why he would name an area with such magnificent topography
after an area that basically as flat as a board remains a mystery!

Mark Borgerson

I guess "in honour of", rather than "reminds me of".....
From the other links I understand Abel Tasman didn't name it, but the
people in the Netherlands did while making a map. NZ was probably
described as 'country consisting of islands'. Well euhmm, okay, we
name it New Zealand. Coffee anyone?

Pay attention people, this man knows the extreme local conditions
well.
There are enough heat stroke deaths and incredible sun burns now,
don't risk it! Also the dreaded "Valley Fever" CAN burn your
brains out! I've seen the vacant stares of the stricken!

Remember in the summer you can fry eggs on the hood of a car, and
inside temperatures CAN get up to 180 Degrees 'F'. You can be
sent to prison for leaving a dog or child in the Car.

If you know anyone in Arizona, please try to convince them to
leave before the end!

For those of you who favor Gun control, bear in mind that anyone
(with the usual exceptions) can wear a gun on their belt anywhere
in Arizona except in a Federal office or Court building.

Traffic is terrible and the SMOG is being used to build new
houses!

Did I mention the Jail in Maricopa County is a tent camp in the
desert?

No country club housing for inmates!

The indigenous wild life includes Diamond Back Rattlesnakes,
sidewinders, and Gila Monsters, all are venomous. The local
predators include bobcats and Cougars. You can see Turkey
Vultures almost anytime cleansing the desert of carrion. There
are RED ants half an inch long whose byte is very painful.

The City of Flagstaff is on the side of a volcano (tallest peak in
the state).

Did I miss anything Jim?

Keeping vermin under control is always a problem in Arizona.

You forgot to add that, since it doesn't rain often, the cities
don't build storm sewers. Instead, they simply smooth the
transitions of streets accross the natural stream beds. When
it does rain, you can't drive anywhere in a straight line
in any vehicle smaller than a Hummer. I wasn't about to
try fording some of those streams in Mr. Hertz's subcompact
Chevy!

I mentioned Hertz----so it must be on topic for sci.electronics! ;-)

According to Mr Omega, it's down to 46F outside my office window. The
Extech IR claims 47, a remarkable correlation. Still brutally cold.

And I would assert that there are those who believe that these
trends in
temperature measurement are attributable to the buildup of
cities around
the thermometers.

For sufficiently large values of "around" , that is even true
for the
temperature rises measured on Mt. Washington, Antarctica, and
the Hawaiian
Volcanoes.

Yet the satellite weather people do not see any rise, in fact they
are seeing a cooling trend which would be consistent with a coming
ICE age!

I saw one report which predicted a 2 degree 'C' rise on the west
coast of California, in 9,485 years, plus or minus about 800
years.

Since New Zealand is also an Island, I suspect it was the source

Since 1167AD!

But there is also a Zeeland, and the names may be related.
