Ok, now you've graduated from "Google lamer" to "top-posting
dolt". ;-) Quote and respond (or "conversational" mode) is the
preferred method of Usenet posting. Snipping the irrelevant bits is
good too.

Keith, you are being overly abrupt and unfriendly. If you responded to
most of the men here in that way, you'd get a very dusty answer. It
almost seems as though you are indulging in the probability that
Sci-girl won't descend to that level.
You really need to unbutton that lip. It's getting in the way of any
humor you Britts are supposed to have. I was simply egging her on to the
next level of netitizen.

Perfect, except for just one more little thing - either under
edit/preferences or tools/options or something like that, there's a
setting to put the cursor at the bottom of what's quoted in your reply
window. (probably on a compose or reply tab or something.) This is called
bottom-posting and is preferred by the vast majority of USENET folks. The
half-vast minority reslly doesn't care. ;-)

(Next lesson: snippage! - ok, two little things. :) )

And I'm pretty sure OE has a setting where you can tell it not to
execute links. That's one of their worst security holes.

Cheers!
Rich

I didn't see it on any tab. But I tried... I'll just have to do it manually
For the next step, try another news client. I highly recommend Free Agent
or Gravity. Of the two Free Agent is easier to set up, but not as
powerful, IMO. Outhouse Excess is a virus waiting to happen.

showing up here. I'm a little confused with how to use this thing.
Ok, it still works. :) BTW, don't expect your posts to show up instantly
on your server. Some servers don't refresh as fast as others. ...and
don't keep pushing send if nothing seems to ba happening. Most often it
is, and you end up sending ten of the same article.

He's British?!?
Sure. That's a well known fact here. Don't get me wrong; I much like
JohnW. Reasonable people will differ (and at least *he* is ;).

Since you're a newb on the Usenet (though I must say, now learning fast),
you might start looking at article headers. They don't always tell all,
but there is information there. For instance, John's has the following
line:

NNTP-Posting-Host: jmwa.demon.co.uk

....which sorta indicates it a UK source. This isn't perfect, since my
news server doesn't attach such information to my articles. Were one to
wildly guess, one would think I'm German. Nope, Individual.net has a
great Usenet deal that I can get at from behind my employer's firewalls.
Again, headers aren't perfect information, but usefull none-the-less.

Anyway, John is well known around here to be a Brit. A score-card is
always usefull. ;-)

Better, but not quite right. Outlook Express encourages you to post your
new message at the TOP. Some people prefer that, but most prefer you to
put your new text at the end of what you quoted.

Also, you quoted rather more of previous messages than necessary, but so
do many other people. Note that I found it necessary to quote only your
new text, because that and my response make sense by themselves, but
often you need to quote more old text in order to produce a meaningful
message.

Very bad puns... hmm, like the unintended one I made in gym today. We were
doing archery and I was waiting in line and commented on how aerodynamic the
arrows were.

Who is your internet provider? Don't they offer a news server as

Verizon. I don't know. Juno's just the email.

The Verizon news server is: news.verizon.net

What browser software are you using? Some browsers will let you
click on news:sci.electronics.design and set up the account for this
newsgroup. Others have to be manually configured. You will also be
able to set up a Verizon E-mail account if you want it. If you need
help from Verizon click on this link:
http://www2.verizon.net/contact/news.asp

For other ISPs this page has some common providers and their links:

EEk. I just told her to use butthook. I completely forgot that Netscrape
has a newsreader.

1. We try (no, really we do!) to be helpful to everyone.
2. Especially to girls.
3. You ask some interesting questions.
4. You stay here even though you are grumbled at.

Even though you are seeing 'blue text', it isn't coming through to
us. I
can't explain what's wrong because I don't use Googlegroups.

That doesn't make sense. You reply because I stay here even though I'm
grumbled at? Believe me, off the computer I've had things said to me
much worse than what any of you have said, and none of it has ever
bothered me. I don't care what you think, I'm just here to learn.

I post the same way here as I do on sci.physics.research (which I've
learned a ton from) and my posts go through there. If I didn't quote
correctly or something, they wouldn't. So, I must be doing it right.

If you for some odd reason really want to read my posts, I'll try to
make it easier, but first I have to know what you're seeing. Try taking
a screenshot of what you see from wherever you're reading in which my
posts don't come out right, and post it on a free web server. Then give
me the URL and I'll look at it, and maybe then I'll understand better.
Well, I don't know what you did, but THIS post has come through
perfectly OK! There is part of my message quoted at the top, as there
should be, followed by your reply.

In YOUR message, each line of my message starts with one '>', and yours
don't have any. As you see, in my reply, my message has two '>>',
showing that it's quoted from two messages back, while your has one '>',
and this text has no '>', showing that it's new text.

Please keep whatever settings you used to produce your message.

My parents won't pay for a news server, I know that much, so there's my
issue.

And you can't come up with $8 on your own?
