The good news is that it only applies to the US.
The rest of the world is fairly sane.

Only one part of this drivel makes sense:

on such things with any credibility."

He got that part right.

The political aspect of the article is something I've not verified.
Are you saying that all that "evil" stuff he's accusing Bush of
doing is hogwash? I sure hope it not that bad.

I saw a number of things that ring true on the religious front.

<quote>
"The world cannot be saved." It leads to "appalling ethics," she
reasons, because the faithful are relieved of concern for the
environment, violence, and everything else except their personal
salvation. The earth suffers the same fate as the unsaved. All are
destroyed.

I know xtians that believes that way. Same goes for the crap they
shovel into their overweight faces. "All meat is good to eat..."
Never mind the passages on gluttony.

Jared Diamond's new book "Collapse" ISBN: 0713992867 lists a couple of
historical examples of the way other parts of the world have managed to
flush their communities down the tubes.

Cutting down too many of your trees always seems to have been a popular
way of drastically reducing the size of the population that you can
feed.

He also mentions at least one example of a community who did the right
thing - sadly, Dubbya's crew seem to have more in common with the crew
that cut down every last tree on Easter Island than they do with the
Polynesian Islanders who decided that pigs were a high status luxury
that they couldn't afford.

In Polynesia, you have coconuts, breadfruit and fish that volunteer to
be caught. You don't even have to go to sea to catch crabs - they come
ashore by themselves. Who NEEDS pigs in that case?

If you believe the creationists, then God created the earth with all the fossils in place and the carbon isotope balance the way
it is. Unfortunately there are some otherwise very intelligent people who believe that crap.

With those sort of medieval beliefs prevalent in the USA it is no wonder there are nonsensical policies in place.

In what way were pigs detrimental to the environment? I don't see where
a pig here or there would be such a big deal.
Pigs are bad news in places with hills and major rain storms. Sheep tend
to pull up grass etc roots and all. Pigs dig down to get at the roots.
Both loosen up the soil on hill sides and make them more likely to erode.

In the wild form, pigs are extra nasty. I knew someone who got tossed up
into a thorn bush by a pig he was hunting. Deer are much safer to hunt.

The main reason to go to sea is to get away from the others. When an
island got too populated, a fraction of the people would move to the next
island down the chain. Unfortunately at Easter island, there was no next
island for a portion of the population to go to and they used up the raw
material for the boats on other foolishness.

No, this version of Simuniverse has Total Restore. He can switch off the

bible is a factual text. I know there are some, but painting us all as
religous zealots is a fallacy. I know it makes most of the Eurotrash

You can always find nuts to get worked up about, be they radical
Christians or radical Communists. I know more of the latter. At least
the Christians tend to be polite, and seldom go about in crowds
smashing shop windows and throwing rocks at cops.
