I would really like to see how each of you are classified by the

I suppose folks could bandy quotes from others all day long and get nowhere.
That some people have thought and said these things isn't at all important.
---
I disagree. Being able to distill a train of thought into a few pithy
words which can evoke that train of thought in others and cause the
emotional response to occur in the reader which the author intended is
indeed important. Poetry, some prose, and musical lyrics all employ
that facility if they are memorable.
---

In this case, it's clear that this individual appears to have had to give up on
his arguments, perhaps so thinly veiled and poorly made that they only gave him
grief over the long run so that finally in his frustration he had to resort to
such name calling. But I've no idea how quoting this kind of mean-spirited
retort contributes to any kind of useful debate of the issues between people. I
suppose it gives some visceral satisfaction at a childish level.

Not to someone who values rationality, as I do. I was speaking from my
perspective.

If P.J. O'Rouke wanted us to think he was an arsehole without the
ability to discuss the merits of the philosophy he was attempting to
denigrate then he is truly a genius. However, I suspect he just wanted
to insult a significant proportion of the populous because he doesn't
agree with them.

Right now I'm pissed at the free ride he gave the midwest power
plants that are causing our acid rain - we only get 4 years for
house paint now, and I spent last weekend working on the 3rd
re-painting of our new 10-year-old house.

We had a few days of remarkably clean air when the blackout
occurred last summer and all the horrible plants were forced
to shut down for a few days. Some "Clear Sky Initiative" Bush
gave us, cravenly pandering to the fat-cat special interests.
Most members of that special interest group are people who like to use
electric lights. We wouldn't have this problem if we used more nuclear
plants, but we haven't even considered building one in almost 30 years
(not a Republican idea by any means).

I painted my house ten years ago. A couple of weeks ago I checked
and it is still okay. I use paint from 'Sigma Coatings' which is
also used by professional painters. The stuff they sell in typical
DIY places is, without exception - plain rubbish. Lifetime also
depends on the type of wood. Meranti is better than pine.

Where do you live? (BTW, most of us here in NE have our houses
painted by professional painters. They now all quote only a 4
to 5 year expected lifetime, and that matches my observations.)
Netherlands, 10 Km. from the coast. The paint I used ten years ago
was a two-pot system. Different paint for ground and second layer,
petroleum based. Two years ago I had a small extension build to
my house, which was painted by a professional. He used the same
type paint. They are supposed to use water based paints only, but
for outdoor jobs he still uses the 'good old stuff'.

Don't get me started.
The relatively unpublicized record on Bush dismantling all the health,
safety, and environmental regulations is clear- he has made thousands of
political appointments to the agencies form either management or
lobbyists for the very industry they regulate. If Bush can't outright
remove the regulation, he eliminates all the inspector jobs so that it
can't be enforced. The prime mover behind most of the regulatory abuse
is this John Graham from the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis.

what has he done?

The problem seems solved. I located the originating site (in the

and E-mails mysteriously stopped, but no one is admitting anything ;-)
