Just came over the Fox News.

and what makes you think this is important news for electronics engineers?

Well I (as an electronic engineer) find it quite interesting and suprising
that he can operate a knife and fork.
Although F102 drivers did not have fly-by-wire they did operate
avionics and, flew the plane. So, you shouldn't be so surprised
even with the most liberal engineering interpretation..

And, if the mannerisms and way person speaks is a measure of
intelligence and ability then (e.g.) Stephen Hawkings is what in
your opinion?

A few years ago, I asked on this group about running a synthesizer keyboard
on rechargeable batteries. One of the replies was from De Guerin
(da6bd@herts.ac.uk) who wrote:

fits into the existing battery compartment ... using high capacity
NiCad/NiMH cells. Note that the D cell Nicads are 50% air/plastic so they

I have two questions:
(1) Since I am fairly clueless but would like to be really clever by making
a battery pack which fits into the existing battery compartment, could
someone explain in words of one syllable how to do it?
(2) Since I posted my original question in 2000, have any other options for
providing portable power to a keyboard synthesizer become available?

Hello,

I'm looking for the Intersil ISL3871(A) datasheets for a little
electronic hobby project.

Where can I find it ? (without signing an NDA) ?

Thanks,

If you go to the Intersil site, and put in that part number, you get:
"The PRISM Wireless LAN business is now part of GlobespanVirata."
And the link leads to:
http://www.globespanvirata.com/
That part does not seem to be recognized, and i have no idea as to
which PRISM "solution" that part may belong to.

The ball is in your court.

These days the cells to use would be "Sub-C size" NiMH with a capacity
around 3000 or 3300 mAH. They offer good energy density while being
reasonably easy to charge. You can buy cells of this size with tags welded
on the ends - these tags can be soldered together to make a pack of cells.

Globespan Virata has bought the PRISM division from Intersil but they
also require to sign an NDA to access the datasheets. :-(

Most NDA are reasonably harmless and it allows them to tell you about any

I saw some of them in my computer, time to time, usually when a demon
transform itself into an uncontrollable thing. It becomes of course a

Won't happen. If they've got ANY metal content, it will be zapped.

I have a sorta related question.

I, say, a roommates three year old [age not important here] decides to
play with the microwave oven; and manages not only to have put a can
or something it, but manages to turn it on - all while said roommate
is passed out all day yet again.

Now, somewhere down the line shouldn't something - a circuit breaker,
a fuse, something picked up on a problem at some point?

Or is it normal for the apartment just burn down?

This is no joke: I'm seriously interested to know if there wasn't
something that should have happened - or not - that didn't, or did.

Whatever: I being held responsable for the damages even though I
wasn't even there and though I tried to have the roommate tossed out
for doing drugs [and not paying anything, etc.]

Thanks for any help here.

Yo Johnny

Their prices are unbelievably cheap. Haven't purchased any yet so it
remains
to be seen how their service stacks up.

In any case this is not spam. Putting ads in NG's is ok according to
most
charters..."...provided restraint is exercised"

Ppl confuse spam with ad posts, and yes, the joke is on them. LOL.

Get a clue.

"Found while surfing" does tend to indicate it is an ad.

The fact that the guy posted to
sci.electronics
sci.electronics.misc
sci.electronics.repair
further suggests he is pushing the site, since the first became
a bogus newsgroup when it was split into the various subgroups
we have today and have had since 1995. And while he puts in
the dead group, and the misc one, he doesn't bother with an obvious,
.components This too indicates a lack of familiarity with the
hierarchy,
which only adds to the impression that he's here for self-promotion.
Other telltales would be a lack of posts to these newsgroups (I didn't
check extensively, but some skimming of the archive shows nothing),
and his over the top munging of his email address. Often, the ones
who spam the most are the ones who fear spam the most.

And before you go around giving permission for ads, you really ought
to pay attentiion.

None of the newsgroups in the sci.electronics.* hierarchy are
for ads. Read about it in Mark Zenier's guide to the hierarchy
at ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/m/mzenier/seguide9706.txt Mark was
one of the people, maybe the most significant one, behind the split
of the hierarchy back in '95.

The place for related ads is misc.industry.electronics.marketplace
and even then it isn't a catchall forsale newsgroup.

Also of interest, as I mentioned just last week when someone similarly
felt ads were allowed, would be rec.radio.swap And of course,
there are always local and regional buy and sell newsgroups.

If the guy's not connected to the site, he hasn't proved it yet.
And until he proves he has more interest in the newsgroups
than to promote the site, I will not take it for a helpful
pointer but as an ad.

Michael

How does the location of the server relate to where the owner posts
from? You can by server space anywhere in the world. The only proof
someone definitely was a spammer would be an identical match of the IP
address. What is to stop someone from using a free dialup account to

Well, if they placed it on a hot burner on the stove and the place burned
down, what would you blame THAT on?? Placing something in the microwave rates
right up there with placing things on a hot stove. No, nothing will "blow a
fuse" or "pop a breaker" just as nothing will do so for a hot stove.
Your best defense is to consult your lease agreement or rental agreement and
see what it says.

Cheers!

Well that wouldn't work for long . . .
The whole idea of SUV's seems to be the "i'm bigger and badder don't
mess with me," syndrome. Whimps with a need to assert themselves?

Doubtless that will draw a firestorm - but rationalize all you want -
you know, deep down, I'm right about this . . .

So soon we are all trucking around in 6 ton, gas guzzling SUV's with
snow plows - what prevents someone with a snow plow from getting a
cell phone?
