I have one of these sets, and ive had it for a quite a few years now.

It worked great until over a year ago, and the raster kept going in and out
intermittently, HV was always there.

the video signal was there, and teh screen drive was absent. so I went to
the splitter and adjusted each screen drive, and had the picture in. that
problem was solved for then, and the picture was slightly pulled in, so im
guessing bad cap in pincussion.

Just today, the set just went totally dead. found HOT Q4401 shorted.

I replaced Q4401, I tried to fire the set up, and the 15khz flyback ring
fired up for a quick second, and the ring was unusually loud squeek. then
boom, HOT shorted out again.

Is the flyback bad? Im thinking it might be the splitter or focus/screen
block, as a problem began to suffice there before.

Any ideas, if there any common failures, let me know, and I probably need a
new flyback and splitter. I need the part numbers.

I dont need the wrong flayback, as I read in past posts, that if the wrong
one is installed, it blows the HV reg board.

Help, any ideas?

anyone here?

I could not find any sites that have free downloadable schematics or
service manuals for CTC169 but any public library in your area may
have it.For more info:

http://groups.google.com/groups?group=sci.electronics.repair

then at the top search section type in "CTC169" and have fun.

http://wa6ati

then click on "TSS log for CTC169"

http://www.elmswood.guernsey.net/ctc169.html

From my repair experience on this CTC169 chassis which I hate here are
common replacement failure parts:

Q4101=SGSIF461=RCA # 200165
U4101V=TEA2261=RCA # 200419
F4005=5 amp fuse
C4108=47 Uf,50v
C4108=39 Uf,50v=RCA # 208002 (in some units)
C4108=47 Uf,100v=RCA # 193623
CR4101=546-002=RCA old # 164588,RCA new # 207878,some say you can also
use RCA # 164589 (small diode)
CR4106=A-23=B4304=RCA # 176296 (large diode)
C4102=2.2 Uf,100v=RCA # 242026,RCA # 195691
C4104=15 Uf,100v=RCA # 189982
CR4118=PFR 851/6,FR305=RCA # 164590 (huge diode)
CR4122=BZX855 3VC=2.7B=ECG5065A

In some cases these parts also have a high failure rate:

R4118=CF 33K ohm,1/4 watt=RCA # 175314
R4114=MF 45.3 K ohm,1/4 watt=RCA # 176506
R4001=2.7 ohms,15 watt

Note:when it comes to Sony & RCA ALWAYS USE OEM #'s or the exact
generic #'s when it comes to semiconductors but for electrolytic caps
you can use any replacements.
