Protel DXP, Pad Holes

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question, but how can I output a gerber file for
camtastic, so it displays all pads with their holes? Currently when I do it,
it just puts the whole pads there with no holes. I've tried all the options
I can see in the gerber setup box.

I remember in 99 it did put the holes like normal.

Thanks
Bob

Bob,
I believe that you are mistaken about P99 outputting pad holes in
Gerber. To the best of my knowledge the only way to accomplish holes in pads
is outputting throught the printer facilities. Within Gerber describing a
pad as a donut (pad with a hole) is a complex function and I am sure that
Protel doesn't support that function directly.
You can output the pads and the drill files as Gerber and Excellon, then
in a secondary tool (a Gerber editor) you may be able to convert the
Excellon to Gerber and then do a composite with the normal pad layer to
combine the holes with the pads.

I think he's right. I've never seen holes displayed in Camtastic either.
I'm a user of Protel99 & Camtastic, and I always see my gerber files with
pads only.

Oh, I must be mistaken then. I haven't used it in a while, I must be
thinking of some other program.

Thanks

Bob,
it looks like my ISP has missed a few messages from this thread. I
assume that you had doubted me. I know that a lot of hobbyists do what you
are trying to do through the print facility but I am very sure it can't be
done directly from Protel via Gerber with no other intervention.

If you want the absolute definitive answer on this possibility, try
posting your query to the Protel Users listserver available at:

http://www.techservinc.com/protelusers/forums.html

The list members (the active ones anyway) are worldwide professionals
that use mostly P99SE and some now also use DXP. If it can be done via
Gerber then someone on this listserver will know how.
