work at room temperature?
If cheap 3% peroxide is not strong enough, what about ammonium nitrate
or potasium nitrate in dilute muriatic (hydrochloric) acid? That should
be functionally equivalent to dilute nitric acid.
I'm looking for something easy to get and less messy than ferric
chloride, and I don't even know where to find ammonium persulfate.
