Hi,

My LiteOn DVD burner fails (reading) when put into DMA mode (and runs
real slow if I run in PIO mode). Any possiblility of reprogramming the
8237 (style) DMA controller for a wait state or two? Or any other
suggestions?

Bonnzzzaaaaaiiiii!!!

Changing the IDE drive cable BIOS setting from 66/100 to 33 (Mhz?)
totally fixes the problem.

I've had a PC slowly corrupt a hard drive from being set to 66/100 -- this
was in the early days of such drives/motherboard combos, though, so I can't
complain _too_ much. (I'd have felt far worse with the early motherboard
with USB that that silicon bugs that simply couldn't be worked around in
software -- at least with the hard drives, DMA33 worked and was still faster
than the drive could transfer data anyway...)
