OT: Win XP tray folder icon?

Somehow the normal yellow folder icon has been replaced by the blue
'monitor' shown in the following screenshot?
http://www.terrypin.dial.pipex.com/Images/FolderIcon1.gif

The correct yellow one is still used in My Computer folders, as I've
also shown in that same shot.

I've posted to a WinXP group too, but anyone here have any suggestions
how that might have happened, and/or how to get my yellow one back
please?

I half-heartedly ran Repair from PowerToys TweakUI, but that didn't
fix it.

This is one of those problems that you can fix with the magic,
undocumented, keystroke tricks. This one just requires that you press

F5, both windows buttons and the numlock at the same time.

Seriously, I suspect that XP is trying to tell you that the "short cut" it
uses to point from the icon to the "my computer" is no longer valid.

Just open the screen properties (by either gonig through the control panel
or right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties) then from the
'Effects' tab select 'Use large icons', click 'Apply' then revert to normal
icons and 'Apply' again, the icon cache has got corrupted. I've seen it
happen on multiple systems (Win XP, Win 98 and Win2k).

Thanks, Chris, but that appears to affect only the *desktop* icons,
not those in the Taskbar, which is where my problem icon is located.

Perhaps it's because you have multiple explorers (in your example: 4)
which have the same taskbar button. May be they all have different
icons. So which one should be shown in taskbar? What if you quit all
applications and only open the "my documents" folder?

Thanks, Michael. But all individual open folders comprising that pesky
blue 'group' icon were of the plain yellow type, and that's what the
group icon should look like.

I had a response in microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize which happily
got it fixed this morning. I'll paste it below for the curious and
those perhaps ending up here on a google search over a similar
problem:

-------
Open Regedit.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\explorer.exe

In the right-pane, create a new REG_EXPAND_SZ value named
"TaskbarGroupIcon"

Double-click "TaskbarGroupIcon" and set it's value as follows:

%SystemRoot%\Explorer.exe,13

Disable Taskbar buttons grouping and enable the option back.
-------

In my case I hit the immediate obstacle that I *had* no key called
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\explorer.exe
But I nervously created one first and then proceeded with the rest.
Voilŕ - my yellow icon back again! And that's survived a reboot, so I
feel reasonably confident it's sorted.
