Bush flew back to DC from vacation, congress meet during the weekend,
and after all that they couldn't upgrade to a feeding transistor!

OK, I have to try out these damn jokes somewhere!

Switches to Top Posting Mode..... Don't lose your panties.

So, there was a publication made by congress which gave advice as to
how to get back in office to those who wanted to do so and... it got
republished.

So congress discussed it over the weekend and.... there was some
attempt at a feeding frenzy but George came home to point out that
they didn't have to worry about it for another four years.

How is Saddam by the way.

I know he's a snivelling little cunt but unless he gets given his
human rights then no-one gets the chance to spend a shitload of
lawyer/judge money taking the piss out of him in the world wide arena.

Has George introduced Saddam to his weapon of ass destruction?

Errrrr....... KT66 or KT88, anode grid bend, whichever takes your
fancy.

With you, Genome, its hard to tell for sure, but I'll assume you really
don't know what this is about, and I'll be straight man.

I don't recall all the details, but in essence...
There is a woman in Florida whose brain got fried some years back (I
think it was a high fever and I think about 10 yrs ago). Since then she
has been in a vegetative state and is kept alive by the medical center
where she is. Her husband wants to let her die but her parents want her
kept alive. She didn't document her wishes in writing before this
unfortunate turn of events. It has been fought in courts for years. A
couple days ago the court finally ruled with the husband's view and her
feeding tube was removed.

Today the US Congress passed special legislation to reopen this issue.
GWB grabbed his bible and headed back to Washington DC from vacation to
join in the festivities.

Yes it is an American thing. Sadam not involved this time. Get it now?

They're all gung-ho on that "right to life" stuff - I wonder why they
don't apply some of that magnanimity to Iraq or Afghanistan?

I think it comes down to an issue of ownership. Who owns you? Do you
own your own body, or are you government property?

Thanks,
Rich

"B" definitely.

Back in the 80's I recall wondering what year we'd all have barcodes tatooed
onto the backs of our necks and have little RFID chips implanted in our skulls.

20 years later, it looks even more feasible.

Btw, Terri Schaivo, the clinically braindead woman from Florida, has been in a
coma for 15 years. The husband wants to move on with his life since there is no
chance she will recover, but the parents think some kind of miracle is going to
happen. Well, where is Rev. Fallwell and that band of miracle-worker zealots
when you need them? Not even they can cure her - they dare not try. Says
something, I think. Will she die if her life support is cut off? She died 15
years ago for all intents and purposes. She can't eat on her own, so she's
technically not capable of surviving on her own, although she can breathe
autonomously. This is due to the brain stem functioning, but everything else
being damaged due to oxygen deprivation due to heart attack.

Government intervention is clearly due to political/monetary issues -
apparently there is a 1M dollar life insurance policy on her head. Are the
parents jealous they won't get the money, so they're keeping her in the hospital
until the bills >= 1M? Or does Dubya/Haliburton/The Enron Goons want their
fingers in the cash too? Maybe share it with their Saudi/Al Quida friends so
they can make missiles to point at us? Yeah, that's the ticket!

The whole thing is SICK. Another SICK aspect of SICK America, as described by
the SICKENING news.

I don't know how uncomfortable a feeding tube is but some
of those other tubes are miserable for the patient. It would
be nice if they could be replaced by some new technology. You'd
think they'd at least have a mattress design that did not
produce bed sores.

Ah, You posters of so little net worth... $1M is peanuts. This whole
thing has degenerated to political grand-standing from both left and
right.

Doctors of high professional standing are being maligned by sickos
trying to get a free ride on the press.

The woman has nothing but slush where cognitive reasoning once lay.
Only the autonomic system remains.

The only sickening thing is that Congress and all the rest of you
sickos think it is any of your business... it's not.

Ten years ago I had to make such a decision for my mother, victim of
open-heart surgery gone awry, and "alive" only by virtue of a
respirator.

My father was too distraught and my sister becomes the classic village
idiot when presented with a crisis, so I made the decision.

Try it sometime... then you'll understand what it's all about.

While this poor woman has been lying unconcious on her death bed,
150,000 USA citizens have died of gunshot wounds in your homes,
streets and schools.

Hurrah for the American way of life.

The point being, whether it's OK to starve someone to death because
she's too damaged to feed herself. Not the same thing as unplugging the
respirator.
It's a tough decision that nobody would like to make -- the one way or the
other. What I find apalling is the attitude of those pro-lifers who think
it's any of their business. There even seem to have been death threats to
judges or doctors who think that the patient should be let die -- these
people really don't seem to have any more mental capability than the woman
whose cause they think to be fighting.

Are there any Constutional scholars amongst us? Isn't there some kind
of prohibition against making laws that target specific individuals?

You can't reason with anti-gun nuts. They're used to abject obedience
to whichever king or emperor happens to be in the catbird seat.

The whole subthread is probably a waste of time and politically
oriented, so what exactly is your point, Win?

Actually the whole thread, not just the subthread.

I don't know how the current environment became defacto, but I admit I
participated in the destruction during the elections. I miss the good
old days where off topic posts were mostly personality related and not
political. That continues, but this does too.

The real thrust here is that if you make enough impressive technical
posts, then you are allowed to also make provocative off-topic posts. If
you haven't proven yourself technically, then you are not respected in
your other opinions.

It's a clique just like back in highschool.

One thing has always puzzled me about these sad cases. Who picks up
the bill? presumably it runs into $$100's -1000's per day, so it would
soon bankrupt the guardian or next-of-kin. Whats the answer?

That may be, but if you're not interested in reading the off-topic
political stuff, just don't read it. Killfile the thread.

I don't think that the quality of the on-topic technical discussions
suffers from the mudslinging.
