Yes, I really liked "The scientific Archive that debunks 50 years of
superstitions on smoking." "People are astonished when presented
with data, collected by organizations that can hardly be described as
tools of the tobacco industry, that demonstrate the risk of smokers
contracting lung cancer are quite remote." Too bad that data didn't
help my father-in-law, or my next-door neighbor, or my grandfather...

There seems to be a growing body of evidence that for a fairly large
minority of the population, smoking is highly hazardous, whereas for
others it is not. One day, we may find out why.

It may be the same with alcohol: some people can guzzle and not become
addicted, other become addicted very quickly.

All my ancestors (primarily Scot, with a little German mixed in)
smoked. Not a one got cancer. Not a one died before age 85.

My father even worked often around asbestos. He's still doing quite
nicely at nearly 87... but his doctors did make him quit smoking at
~80 years.

I do guzzle. What's the definition of "addicted" ?:)

When you don't stop drinking until you are at least partially
incapacitated. When you hide bottles around the house. When you drink
alcohol (except champagne) for breakfast.

Oh, Dear! I do have an occasional Bloody Mary, or Mimosa for late
breakfast on weekends ;-)

Actually, you wouldn't count the Mimosa... it's orange juice and
Champagne.

That's what we 'Europeons' call 'Buck's Fizz'. Or don't you count Brits
as 'Europeons'?

And I'll let you have Bloody Mary for breakfast as well.

Have the Brits EVER considered _themselves_ to be EuroPeons?
Only when it pays. (;-)
I believe a summer favorite of mine, Pimm's Cup, is of Brit's origin?
You probably mean Pimms No 1. Once upon a time, there were five
different ones, each based on a different spirit.

A real Pimms No. 1 has a borage flower in it.

Will Vodka do? I make martinis 3:1, 3 parts Vodka to 1 part Sake ;-)

Any good brand of Vodka, but I prefer Sho Chiku Bai for the Sake.

I mix them up in a pitcher and put them in the freezer for awhile,
along with the glasses. (Vodka resides in the freezer all the time.)

Sounds Good. Must try that - I use Sake anyway for Chineese Cooking, so
instead of drinking wine I can get a decent "hit" immediately ;-).

Dry Martini's are the best pre-dinner drink IMO:
Over 3 cl of pure booze straight off, sets the tone.

Absolutely ;-)

I like "Saketini's" with Sashimi.
