Hi,

I have an older modem that has a dip switch numbered

1 2 3 4 5 6 on/off

Any idea on how to set the switches for COM 4
and IRQ 11?

Are you going to give us a clue with a brand/model of modem? Otherwise only
smart-alec replies are likely.

Ken

Sorry. The modem is an

SA NRTL/C LR 105521
Model FB WS - 5614JS3KV
Industry Canada

All I know is that with 6 switches, there are about 2^6
possibilities. I have to turn the computer off every time
I change them. I've tried a few, but no luck.

No prob's, was a rushed post and maybe it seemed testier than it was meant.
:)

Is this an internal or external modem? There's drivers around for a modem
with that chipset, but I'm not able to (quickly - I'm getting hungry!) find
a manual. Search on 'modem' and 'ws-5614js3kv', yo'll get hits and hopefully
a manual.

Cheers.

Bingo! I found an answer at,

http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/pid/538/qid/454682

Apparently there is no IRQ 11 possible on the thing.

Thank you,

Jon

IRQ 11 might be a bad idea anyway. IIRC it's the shared IRQ used by PnP?
If you really want to use it though, you could wire the IRQ line on the
main part of the board to the edge connector finger (if it's present)
for IRQ11, select IRQ3 and cut the trace to the IRQ3 finger. Are you
sure the modem won't Plug and play with the right switch setting?

I actually installed the modem with the proper dip setting and got it to
work. I had to go into the Resources tab of Device Manager for COM 4
and change the IRQ from 11 to 3, and disable COM 2 in the system BIOS
