Hello,

Ever heard of "Feng Shui" ancient art of arranging the living space to

You should refrain from adding those letters to your description, since
it violates Ebay terms of use: letters like HP and IBM which have
absolutely _nothing_ to do with the item. I've reported some sellers
for lesser offenses, such as those idiots that sell LEDs and use Honda,
Lexus, etc. in their descriptions to attract the car fans. They've had
their auctions cancelled because of this abuse.

So you had better 'de-clutter' your item descriptions before you have
them deleted completely. And read their terms of use while you're feng
shui-ing.

Use the same circuit the external USB/Firewire boxes use. It converts
USB and/or Firewire to IDE. You probably need a dedicated cisrcuit for
each drive. Then you can use a USB or Firewire cable to connect to your
PC. The drives can even be hot-plugged (is four power-supply allows).

You can still get removable IDE drive cases "caddys" where you mount a 3.5"
drive in a 5.25" case. Some of these are hot-swappable although that does
depend on which OS you are using...

That would work for the hard discs. CD-ROMs are more problematic: USB or
Firewire as others have suggested would probably be best. Try googling for
hot swap cd drive.

Please note there isn't really any such thing as an "internal"
IDE/ATAPI device --- they're all internal by definition. The only
question to decide upon is "internal to _what_?" The design assumes a
PC or something like it, but there are alternatives, most prominently
in the form of separate boxes that hold an ide drive and connect it to
something else.

The big problem is an electrical one: IDE/ATAPI is not at all designed
to be hot-swappable, and not particularly friendly with the concept of
external mounting. Note that there's not even a standardized plug for
external IDE cables --- the allowed cable length of about 80 cm (40 cm
in some cases) would make any non-neglible amount of external cable a
fragile concept anyway.

My recommendation would be to forget about using IDE itself as the
attachment method for those movable drives. Use USB, Firewire, or
ethernet instead.

Whole posting snipped.....

One thing you might look at is a set of ide-to-scsi adapters, then use scsi
cables for hookup. These adapters plug right on the back of the ide
drives. http://www.acard.com/eng/product/scside/ars-2000fw.html is one
example. http://www.addonics.com/products/io/ide_scsi.asp is another.
Scsi drives *should* boot natively from dos, windowd, and linux (mine do),
as the bios in the scsi adapter card kicks in before the os boots.

i would say inductors.
but then again what the hell do i know.
blue cases normmaly indicate chokes/inductors.
who knows. try putting an ohm meter on them
and see if they hold a stead low ohm reading.

Does the white sticker mean that they are PC100?
last question....
I have a new pC which uses PC133 memory sticks.. what would happen if
I used
PC100 sticks in them?
I upgraded a Dell GX-110 with memory, and the BIOS said it was PC133,
but the specs call for PC100. So maybe the PC100 will work ok if you
try it out in the PC133 machine.

The total cable length from controller to drive needs to be 18" or less.

I think that rules out any "solution" based on pure IDE.

That's why you got suggestions of alternatives.

Okay, I'll agree that there is some sort of cable-length limitation, but
I've got several PC's of various manufacture which are running (apparently)
perfectly well for years with 24" and 36" IDE cables so the 18" limitation
isn't a brick wall.

I've tried putting a removable frame inside the box with a "SCSI" 50-pin
Centronix cable dangling out which I plugged into a drive sled. As I
mentioned earlier, the PC simply won't even start to boot this way which is
undoubtedly due to the cable not being a 50-wire cable. If I could find a
short -- maybe 12" -- 50-wire ribbon cable with 50-pin male and female
Centronix connectors, I could certainly create a total cable less than 18".
But so far I've failed to find any 50-wire ribbon cable with M&F connectors
of any length.
You could make your own pretty easily.

It looks like I'm stuck -- at least for the present -- with having the
secondary IDE cable dangling outside the box. That does work, reliably.
But it's not safe with me around the equipment ;-))

I have two sets of Koss Pro 4AA Earphones that I purchased around
1965. I
use them for television programs, especially the good movies. I like
these
particular sets because the bass is not so prominent and the buzz that
is
inherent in the tv does not seem so prominent in these phones as some
of the
newer earphones.

I am having problems with the sound reproducers. While I am watching
a
program in stereo, I can detect the left channel beginning to fade,
the
moreso, until it is completely off, while the right channel continues.
I
have a long stereo cable from the tv to the headphones, about 10 feet.
I
have checked the cables and these are not the problem. I can apply
the
leads of a 1.5 volt batter in a battery holder, scratching the leads
onto
the stereo connector, and the right side is quite clear with the
pulses, but
the left side is dead at first, and then recovers and responds to the
pulses.

I would like to know if anyone has had a similar problem with these
earphones. I don't want to send them back to Koss for replacement of
the
reproducer because they might put in one that has a greater bass
response
and I don't want that for these particular earphones.
It's been decades, but I had a pair, I think not the double A. If I
remember correctly the 'woofer' and 'tweeter' were in series. First,
tho, check to see if it's an intermittent connection or the cabling. If
not, then you might bypass one or the other of the speakers to see if
it's in one of those. If it is, well, I don't know where you could get
one other than the factory. You might be able to repair it, but the
wires on those things are super fine, and difficult to work with.

They're really _not_ Centronics, which has 36 pins. They're Amphenol
connectors, which might lead you to a more productive search. These are
used on telco cables, on SCSI cables, and various types of ribbon
cables. Hope that helps.

select 2 high quality pie crusts (you
will need one for the top also).
Boil the prepared delicacy until the meat starts to come off the bones.
Remove, de-bone and cube; continue to reduce the broth.
Brown the onions, peppers and celery.
Add the meat then season, continue browning.
De-glaze with sherry, add the reduced broth.
Finally, put in the root vegetables and simmer for 15 minutes.
Allow to cool slightly.
Place the pie pan in 375 degree oven for a few minutes so bottom crust is not soggy,
reduce oven to 325.
Fill the pie with stew, place top crust and with a fork, seal the crusts together
then poke holes in top.
Return to oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until pie crust is golden brown.
