afaik it's safe.
I believe it is inhaled particles which cause damage - like when insulating
lofts with the blanket stuff. Also the thin fibres catch in your skin and
irritate. PCB bits tend to be little lumps not long and thin.
So just take normal precautions when drilling to not breathe in the dust.

Sure, but I wouldn't bake muffins with them. I keep a vacuum cleaner going when
I drill stuff on the press.

Is it OK to use the loft as a storage place, I think we have this insulation
up there and it's exposed between the beams, i.e. there is no floor there?

No problem. Just don't roll around on it. Treat it with respect and don't
disturb it unless you have to. If you have to, then wear clothes that cover
most/all skin, and use gloves so the fibres don't stick in your fingers.
B&Q places sell cheap little face masks to stop you inhaling it. They're OK
for occasional / home use.

most particles or materials small enough to be inhaled are not good
for you....I think sand is bad for you if inhaled under the right
conditions.

wear a cheap mask if you are worried about inhaling the stuff....or
buy a "better" disposal mask....you can reuse it if you keep it put
away in between use.
