I doubt it.
The amateur radio oganization "The American Radio Relay League"
<http://www.arrl.org> has posted many articles about it, both in regards to
interference potential, and also about how the FCC seems to be pushing it,
despite advice against, from their own engineers and others.

Yeah -- there is more than one big flaw in the FCC's analysis -- there was
no consideration of mobile services (not just ham radio, but police, fire,
etc.) . Here in NJ we suffer from the fact that JCPL was owned by GPU (of
Three Mile Island fame.) as a result the deferred maintenance on the system
is unbelievable and there are whole stretches of highway where a.m. radio is
unlistenable due to interference from their transmission lines.

Young Mr. Powell must have gotten hit with the "stupid stick" as a child.
He has none of his father's brilliance.

The FCC is pushing it because the Shrub's administration is
pushing it, and Michael Powell, the FCC's chairman, is a Shrub appointee
(or crony, take your pick).

BPL is yet another way the current administration is working hard
to favor big-business interests over practical considerations and
consumer safety. I'm surprised amateur radio spectrum hasn't been diced
up more than it has been, and sold to the highest bidder(s).

I think what's going to happen with BPL is that they're going to
bull on ahead and get it installed no matter what those of us who know
better tell them. Then, once it starts interfering with public safety,
aviation, and military radio operations, you'll probably be able to
measure how quickly it gets shut down on the fingers of one hand.

In other words, I think what's going to have to happen, to drive
home the point of what a truly horrible and impractical idea BPL is, is
for Air Force One to be suddenly unable to communicate with an airport
tower because of BPL interference.

Either that or (I hate to say it this way) someone getting treated
by paramedics on the way to the hospital, someone who's fairly high up
the political food chain, is going to end up dying because the
ambulance's communications were out due to BPL.

I'm relieved to say that our local power co., Puget Sound Energy,
has not shown the slightest interest to date in deploying BPL. I can
only hope that they continue to maintain this most sensible position.

But he had the right connections to get the job. ;->

Around here the Edison co. has a squirt gun truck come down the street
and squirt all the insulators of the high V lines to get rid of the dust
and salt spray that causes the arcing. That helps. Maybe the salt
spray where you are is contributing to the noise? In any case, you
would think that they would do it more for maintaining the line losses
at a low level so less energy is wasted.

Besides, everyone is going to go to XM or whatever, right? Hah!
