analog layout toolset

Hi all

any opinions on which analog layout toolset would work best for a
small startup? We are looking at the Cadence group of

Virtuoso - layout
Spectre - spice
Assura-DRC - DRC
Assura-LVS - LVS
Composer - schematic capture
Assura-RCX - parasitic extraction

However the price is pretty steep for a new company - list about
$350k.
Maybe some discount could be worked out but this is still a different
ballpark than we are ready for right now.

Thoughts?

I would look at Tanner http://www.tanner.com/ if I were you.

Of course, you might want to consider only few licences of the main
system, and for example, use a much cheaper simulator, for day to day
work. I am aware of at least one affordable simulator which has various
i.c. design hooks:)

SuperSpice, a very affordable Mixed-Mode
Windows Simulator with Schematic Capture,
Waveform Display, FFT's and Filter Design.

My layout guy has recently switched from Composer to LayTools (sp?).

We have no trouble at all doing an LVS from PSpice to LayTools.

I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put it in the food.

Depends on how low end you want to go. We did chip layout and
simulation with Pspice and ICED for about 15K per seat, including DRC,
LVS, and other utilities. I've also heard good things about Tanner's
L-Edit program. And this was up to about 5-6 GHz.

You have to do a lot more on your own but the trade-off may be worth
it.
