ABC TV logo changes

Actually I've found myself in a rather interesting position. I've got
a cool new project I'm looking at getting published, and normally it's
no-brainer .....

That's almost funny, Phil.
Points were deducted for having to snip though.
And of course you always loose a point for the silly quoted name
change.

I have ceased buying SC on a regular basis now.

I went to five newsagents this week and I can't find Silicon Chip
in any of them, it seems there's not enough sales, at least that's what
the last Newsagent said when I asked him specifically for it.
Surprisingly my local newsagent had SC, Circuit Cellar, Elektor, and
Everyday Practical Electronics when I looked the other day. Buried in
among all the Hi-Fi and gadget mags of course.

Me and others have sometimes wondered if that was the motivation
for the childish cartoons on the front of some SC projects ...
For me the pivotal moment was when they published their new amp design
mounted in a particularly cheap & shitty beige mini-tower computer case,
complete with big knobs to make it look supremely naff.

I didn't see that one, but I'll never forget the 655 TV monitor
manual with the Back Porch Generator cartoon (petrol generator on the
back porch of a hillbilly shack), and the Phase Lock circuit (phi(?)
symbol in a small jail cell) and another one or more I can't quite remember.

I thought they were hilarious and they put me in a better mood for
repairing them.

There's a very small collection of Tektronix manual cartoons at

Nope. Never seen that mag on Australian shelves.

Which was plainly a stupid attempt at recycling. However the circuit design
was OK, and I built one into a standard rack case long before they realised
their error and redesigned it with a normal case. I'll bet I wasn't the only
one either.

I don't think I ever claimed it was effective or even
prevented plagiarism ;-) Probably about as effective as
antismoking labels on cigarettes.

Nope. Never seen that mag on Australian shelves.

That's too bad. It started out being printed on recycled newspaper,
and evolve to an actual magazine. Lots of projects, and it used to have
advertisements from lots of surplus dealers in the US and Canada.

Seen it occasionally on library shelves, lots of overseas magazines
can go to over $15-20 mark here on newsstands. I like Nuts and Volts format
and the wide variety of projects featured.

I think that I still have some of the early issues. Some of the
projects are available on their website, and you can subscribe to an
electronic version.

Far less so IMO, and at least the cigarette packet warnings don't affect the
cigarettes themselves, whereas watermarks always affect the actual program.

I think the prime aim is simply to irritate viewers as much as possible, and
the channels are engaged in a battle to see who can do it best.

MrT.

Thanks Bob - I hadn't realized how many there were.

For irritation it is hard to match the recent format for such shows as
Border Security. About 2 minutes of good stuff, then lots of adverts, then a
recap of at least one minute of the previous two minutes. Arrgh!

Arrgh!

Worse still is when some of the old Foxtel logos used to
give screen burn! IIRC Fox 8 was the main culprit :-(

I've also noticed those TV programs catering for people with a goldfish
attention span appearing on the ABC as well.

Finally found a current copy of SC once I went to one of the larger
newsagents in town, I guess the other hole in the wall newsagents stock
high sales items such as FHM and Picture magazine.
