No really? I've got a portable CD player with an EQ button, whose
options are "train"/"live"/"sxbs". The player seems to work fine when
no EQ is selected, but when any of the EQ settings are selected
(whether the unit is playing a CD or not), strange things happen.
Either the laser assembly makes very loud noises but doesn't play the
disc, or the motor doesn't spin at all, and the LCD display acts
strangely. I'm wondering if there's something relatively easy that I
could do to try to rectify the problem... ie., cleaning the ribbon
traces on the assembly, or cleaning the contacts behind the display?
ANy idea of what could cause this type of logic problem?

Brand and model, please.

S-XBS, this clues us that your player may be a Panasonic. But we need to know
more. - Reinhart
Sorry I forgot that; it is a Panasonic, model SL-CT570.
