WANTED: Power Transformer for Radio

Hi All,

I'm currently restoring a 1939 vintage Hallicrafters S-19R
communications receiver ("Sky Buddy") and I need to replace a blown
power transformer. The original transformer is horizontally mounted
with 2 x 2.5 inch mounting centers (distance between screw holes).
Primary voltages are 700 VCT (350-0-350) with 5 and 6.3 volt windings.
If anyone has a transformer (either Hallicrafters OR any transformer
of similar size/voltage) to sell or donate, please e-mail me. Thanks.

The problem is in the primary. I've considered rewinding (see my
previous posts on transformers) and it's just too much work.

If you have the original transformer, why not take it apart carefully
until you find the bad winding, and then rewind the transformer
yourself?

What's the Hallicrafter part number on the transformer? I may be able to
find a replacement if you have that number.

If you lived close, I would invite you to come pick one out my lifetime
supply, but "dumpjunkmailhere" isn't much of an address.

In spite of my e-mail address, I do check it on a daily basis. I get
a lot of spam by joining NG's, thus "dumpjunkmailhere". The
transformer isn't really that hard to find nor rewind, but as a low
income student like myself, I have neither the time to rewind nor
money to buy a new replacement. That's why I posted the request for a
transformer. Thanks for understanding,

Does it work well with a 540 VAC transformer?

Hallicrafters chose not to disclose transformer specs to public, but
according to an e-mail from Chuck Dachis (the Hallicrafters collector
and specialist), the Sky Buddy S-19R uses a 700 VCT.

Surely would. It would run cooler, too.Most of those tubes will work on 150-200 volts with no problems, also
original transformer had 110 vold AC winding and line voltages today run up to 125 volts. That would cause
elevated B+ and you need to work to keep that down to somewhere near the original DC voltage on the tubes and
caps.
I assume you have, or plan to replace all those old wax capacitors in the set, and the filter caps too. Othewise
you're sure to lose the replacement transformer, too.

I was never aware of any problems with it. Have to assume it was always
running at 540. At least up until the time a couple of tubes went and I
put it in the attic over 40 years ago. Just took it down to give to a
friend when I saw your post, so I checked the voltage.
