Some, probably many smaller LED novelties have LED dice, or chips, on a
small board with transparent encapsulant around everything. Not 0402 LEDs
but just plain dice. Those are usually around 300 micrometers or approx.
..012 inch wide.

About the same size as the tip of a FO.

I first saw these just before Halloween.

Generally the button will have a half dozen or
so lights, 2 red, two blue, two green,
alternating.
