Splitting video signal/transmission distance

Hey All,

Got some great help here a few weeks ago so thought I'd try my luck
again !

Ok, I have Foxtel coming into my house. I have it showing in the main
living room. I also want to have it showing in my other "games room".
I'm happy to show the same channel in both rooms as I don't want a new
Foxtel box.

Now the question. I want to split the output from the Foxtel box and run
two tv's off it. Both tv's will be using the standard composite video
input (no s-video). The first tv will be about 1 meter away from the
Foxtel box. the second tv will be around 15 meters away.

The questions are:

1. Can I split the video signal without any significant signal
loss/picture degradation ?

2. Will the second tv show a decent picture ? If so, what cable should I
use ? Where can I purchase the required cable ?

3. Any advice ? Like, will I need an amplifier or something similar ?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Yes to the first two, albeit the word 'significant' is in the eye of the
beholder. However, as long as you use half decent cable and properly made up
connectors, it should be sweet over 15m. You may even be able to get a 15m
AV extension cable (or a 5m plus a 10m). Trickster Dicky has 'em. As for
amp, your TV may have an AV out set of connectors, in which case I'd just
use them. That way no splitter required, nor amp, etc.

If you use the Video then you also have to take the audio (another cable)
If you use a passive TV splitter and take the RF from the STB then you can
see whatever the STB is showing or a Free to Air channel if there is an
aerial into the STB.

Sir,

You are a genius. I checked the back of my tv and yes, it has a
video/monitor out. No amp needed. Tested and works great !

Thanks for the tip.
