Sony CDP-101 service manual

I'm trying to get one of these early CD players working and could really
use a service manual. Does anyone have one they would be willing to
sell? It doesn't appear to be available from Sony any more (part
numbers 9-951-028-12, or -21). My player has a problem in the DAC
circuit. I suspect the CX7934 which is the last processing step before
the DAC. All I get coming out of the CX7934 are square waves of various
frequencies which never change. Only one line between the CX7934 and
the DAC is changing and the pops coming from the audio output correspond
with the changes in this signal. The laser is tracking; search, seek
and play all respond properly.

Don't know if you'll get the manual nowadays, but a common fault listed in
the Sony Fault Finding Guide of Nov 1986 is indeed IC503 (CX7934 Part No.
8-759-905-52) causing "Clicks on both channels after approx. 10 minutes"

The only other faults listed are
No sound - EFM demodulator defective (IC502 , CX7933 Part Number
8-759-905-50)

No functions when cold - dry joint on R584

Thanks for the reply. That would seem to agree with my diagnosis of the
CX7934. It's not available from sony and the CX7933 is $50, but out of
stock. I'd still be interested in a service manual if anyone has one
they don't want. Any ideas on places to look for an obsolete IC like
this?

They list a number of sources, but the minimum order is $500. That
would be great if I had 200 players to fix!
