Soldering Iron Ground Adapter

This ground adapter allows you to remove power to the DUT instead of
unplugging it, then having to connect the DUT to line ground every time
you need to work on the circuit.

The KLARYTYMA and similar soldering irons have very low resistance from
the tip to line ground. Sparks will fly if you happen to touch the AC
line with power on.

This ground adapter provides protection by limiting the current to 1 mA.
This is well below the 5 mA required to trip the GFCI, and protects
against ESD when the power is off.

An ordinary light switch allows you to turn power off to the DUT, and the
circuit remains grounded for ESD protection. The 120k resistor between
tip and ground prevents tripping the GFCI when power to the DUT is
switched off.

A standard dual outlet provides power to the iron and the DUT.

A fuse in series with the AC line could be added to provide protection in
the event the DUT becomes shorted through a miswire or solder bridge.

Please check line wrap.

If you live in Canada, here is a list of parts from Rona. Just about any
hardware store has the same parts, but Rona will bag them for you and
email you when they are ready to be picked up.
