Anyone have any experience with Tricky Dickie's security sensor mats with
regards to reliability etc?

I'm also curious as to what is inside one of these mats that makes them work
i.e. internal contact construction etc!

You have hobbies. I have hobbies.
Chances are I have one that you don't.
I'll leave it up to you to decide!

Almost certainly will not last as long as an IR sensor will. I
wouldn't bother, IR sensors are proven technology, foolproof, cheap,
and most likely less hassle to wire into your system.
