Resource on designing a bicycle alarm

Hi,

I've been assigned to investigate, design, and make a product based on
theft in GCSE electronics. I have chosen to go along with the bicycle
alarm idea and need some resource to get me down the pathway.

So far I require to write documentation containing information on how
I will design and make my product with diagrams and schematics.

However, some good resource will be of great help in helping me along
with this project. Documentations, schematics are all welcome for
recommendation.

Try to go along with it being *your* assignment, to test *your*
knowledge and resourcefulness. Then perhaps start by studying the
hundreds of potentially relevant resources you'll get from a google
search.

Car alarms work because you can make it difficult to find/access/disable
them. On a bicycle, this ain't so easy. Your problems are likely to
be more about protecting the ALARM than protecting the bike.

Car alarms work because you can make it difficult to find/access/disable
them. On a bicycle, this ain't so easy. Your problems are likely to

The usual way of nicking a bike is to break the lock or cut through the
securing chain/ cable, so Keith's suggestion of a wire break detector is
a good one. I don't think you need to do too much for a GCSE project,
the trick is to do the write-up properly (that's why my boy only got a B
despite doing a fairly advanced project with a microcontroller and an
LED display).

but if I catch you copying it without going through it, thoroughly
understanding it, and making a good case why THIS circuit is suitable
and not some other, I'LL COME DOWN ON YOU LIKE A TON OF BRICKS.

By the way, it's not the ONLY way to nick a bike: I saw the aftermath
where the thief had cut through iron railings to take a friend's bike,
which cost well over a thousand pounds and was locked with two of those
guaranteed big bang proof staple locks.

I heard somehwere that all bicycles in Amsterdam weigh 40 pounds. If you
have a 30-pound bike, you only need a 10-pound lock, but if you have a
10-pound bike, you need a 30-pound lock. And nobody steals the unlocked
40-pound bikes.

I heard somehwere that all bicycles in Amsterdam weigh 40 pounds. If you
have a 30-pound bike, you only need a 10-pound lock, but if you have a
10-pound bike, you need a 30-pound lock. And nobody steals the unlocked

the frame is filled with iron and concrete. Well, as long as it
is flat, mass doesn't matter that much.
