replacement battery for APC UPS: motorbike batteries?

For want of a better group to post this in (suggestions welcome):

Does anyone have suggestions as to reasonably priced replacements for the
batteries in APC UPSes? The pack in my Smart-UPS1500 looke very much like
2 motorbike batteries glued together (though I have not found any info on
characteristics).

Has anyone ever tries using motorbike batteries in the UPS? Would there be
any compelling reasons (incompatibilities, dangers etc) to not try that?
If not, any tips one should remember when trying this?

regards

Yes they can be replaced but make double sure that the new batteries are of
the MARINE type or they won't last long.
I expect you want "Deep Cycle" batteries, rather than "Marine"
(although many marine/RV batteries are deep cycle).

The UPS requires deep cycling batteries, that are not dangerous for acid
fumes, or hydrogen gas, when venting. Personally, I would only use batteries
that are specified for UPS applications only.

Ones marked "Golf Cart" or "Deep Cycle" are also OK.

There are special batteries just for UPS use. Search Google for
"standby batteries".

_Don't_ get motorcycle batteries (though that may be what came with
the UPS).
