RCA CTC-130 No Remote Action

This has the integrated remote sensor and remote preamp built onto one
board. The keypad works fine but it will not take commands from a remote (I
tried several original RCA and universals, with no luck). My service manual
doesn't cover that particular module, however, some measuring with a scope
shows some kind of remote signal getting as far as the preamp IC (#1762-2),
however I don't know if the signal is correct or not.
Is there any common failure on these modules, or is a complete replacement
the only option?
Thanks for any advice.

You must order the complete module from the RCA parts department, or if
you can find the IC that is inside, you can try to change it. I found
fixing these modules to not be cost effective most of the time. The IR
diode itself can also cause fault conditions. If there are pulses on
the output of the module, trace through to see where they stop. It is
also possible that something in the path to the uPC has failed.
Normally, this module either works or does not work. I rarely have seen
anything in between this type of logic.
