Problem with AT&T 9320 wireless phone

After a few years of good service, now, when I take the handset off the
base and try to use it, it beeps four times and does not work.

Battery measures over four volts.

LEDs indicate that the handset can communicate with the base, and that
the handset is charging when it is docked.

The Handset Locator does not work.

Suggestions?

Replace the battery and try again.
