OVERHEATING MOTOR

Hi all...I'm working on this ROBERTS MODEL 770 X SS, reel-to reel taperecorder
that loses speed and traction as the thing heats up...Checked belts, idler
wheels and any other wheel that makes contact with the main motor...even the
clutches on the take-up and rew. wheels...everything seems to be in order. The
only problem I can see is a 2MF @260V capacitor that is mounted near the motor
and it's even hotter that the motor itself, so I wonder if by this capacitor
heating up, is making the motor go slower?...BTW: it seems that's a NP
capacitor since I see no +/- signs on it.
I just want you advice or views on the subject.
TIA
Alphie
