It\'s good for the plants, though. That\'s why despite massive
deforestation in many parts of the world, the level of CO2 in the
atmosphere has remained stable at just under 400ppm for over a hundred
years.

You are an imbecile.

That\'s the standard argument of people who can\'t think about or
discuss things thoughtfully. Crude insults.

That was not an insult. It is impossible to insult this idiot.

He has been told many times on other groups about the flakiness of the
\"data\" he refers to. I can\'t be bothered to repeat it here.

The term \"imbecile\" when referring to doom is perfectly rational.

No coincidence: the coarse insulters can\'t design electronics.

No coincidence.

This OT thread has nothing to do with electronic design.

You are an imbecile.

The crude insulters who can\'t design electronics usually hide their
names too.

You automatically assume that anyone who disagrees with your twisted
views \"can\'t design electronics\".

Typical of an arrogant narcissist git.

What difference would that make, if indeed true

Of course it\'s true. You are obviously arrogant and classically
narcissistic. I pity anybody who has to work for you.

They seem pretty happy. The pay and bonuses and medical coverage and
company-funded 401K and free chocolate don\'t hurt, and we occasionally
post bail for spouses. Everyone has been on full salary and benefits
through the covid things, whether we had work for them or not.

We have a lot of fun, actually.

This ain\'t Facebook
or Twitter, it\'s an electronic design forum.

If that was a sincere comment, you wouldn\'t participate in this
off-topic guff.

OK, I will ignore you. All you do is cackle anyhow.
Thank goodness for that. I can\'t say I\'ll miss you.

Now fuck off.

John has over the last 25 years or so been one of the most valued
contributors here so WTH are you, an obvious TROLL, to tell him or
anyone else here to fuck off?
You called me an imbecile for my remarks about the level of CO2 in the
atmosphere. I went to a massive amount of trouble and expense to
acquire reputable, accredited sources of information in physical print
form going right back to the closing years of the 19th C. in an effort
to establish whether the persistent whinings of climate alarmists like
Greta Thunberg and Al Gore were in any way justified. They were not.
Not even remotely. The level of atmospheric CO2 has remained largely
constant at ~380ppm since 1898, despite that 122 year period seeing
the advent of the motor car and the huge growth of carbon-intensive
mass manufacturing the world has ever seen. I\'m not pointing this out
for YOUR benefit because YOU are a troll and *no amount of evidence*
will ever disabuse you of your ignorance, but there will be others
with open minds reading this who will derive some benefit from it and
perhaps even pursue their own studies of the matter to eliminate any
doubt whatsoever in their minds as to who is the real imbecile here.

Oh, and one more thing: <*PLONK*
Time wasting trolls are not welcome here.

You are an utter imbecile.

Not entirely true. He\'s definitely ill-informed, and susceptible to particularly fatuous right-wing propaganda. but if he were an utter imbecile he\'d be slightly less irritating.

If what he posted was merely stupid, he\'d be a nuisance, but there\'s an unpleasant streak of malice which makes him even less attractive.

It takes particularly foolish arrogance to let him declare that \"time-wasting trolls aren\'t welcome here\" when he\'s a decidedly unpleasant example of the breed who is in no position to speak for the group as a whole (not that anybody else is either - it\'s an un-moderated group and includes a very wide range of people, though few as persistently obnoxious as he is).

John Larkin has been one of the most prolific contributors here for more than twenty years. The idea that he might be a valued contributor - let alone one of the most valued contributors - is a stretch.

Since Cursitor Doom is a pig-ignorant twit, with a habit of posting links to the dimmest kind of right-wing propaganda, his endorsement isn\'t exactly valuable.

Sadly. you don\'t seem to have gone to the trouble of acquiring the scientific training that would have revealed that what got published about CO2 levels at the end of the 19th century wasn\'t all that informative. Ice-core data dug up more recently (and processed with much better tools than were around at the end of the 19th century) have made it clear that the published data wasn\'t worth publishing.

Not even remotely. The level of atmospheric CO2 has remained largely
constant at ~380ppm since 1898, despite that 122 year period seeing
the advent of the motor car and the huge growth of carbon-intensive
mass manufacturing the world has ever seen.

This is based on very few measurements down inside laboratories being heated by coal fires. Ice core data reflects the sate of the atmosphere over
Greenland and the Antarctic when the snow was falling. It\'s a whole lot more informative.

I\'m not pointing this out

It\'s Curstor Doom - there\'s no doubt about that. What\'s truly imbecilic is his claim that he had to go to any trouble ofr expense to find journal articles from the end of the 19th century. University libraries have bound journals going back that , and you can consult them for free, and copy the relevant pages on their xerox machines remarkably cheaply.

Remember that old saying, Bill? \"A pig-ignorant far-right thicko and
his money are soon parted.\"

In reality he\'s almost certainly relying on denialist propaganda which has done all this kind of work for him.

Oh, and one more thing: <*PLONK*

What should be at issue is the quality of the jurists that get appointed to the Supreme Court, not whether one political party or the other likes them on the basis that their decisions will suit one party or the other when they get onto the bench.

Justice is supposed to be impartial.

The US constitution is clearly defective here, as it is in several other places. Most foreigners haven\'t been indoctrinated as children with the idea that the US founding tax evaders were super-humanly wise - they clearly weren\'t - and while they don\'t understand quite how the indoctrinated can be quite as silly about the subject as they frequently are, they probably should spout off about it more rather than less. We may not \"understand\" the US constitution in the way you do - as something precious passed down to you - but this does leaves us able to see where it falls short in a way that the indoctrinated don\'t seem to be able to manage.

** Gotta agree with Bill here - the US voting system is mind blowingly obtuse. Compared to Australia, it is wide open to skewed outcomes and anti- democratic manipulation by parties and big media.

FYI:

Here, all eligible adults (over 18) must register themselves AND vote at all elections - local govt, state and federal.

Compulsory voting *eliminates* the need to either bribe or frighten people to actually cast their vote. Candidates need *only* to convince them to vote their way.

Proportional / preferential vote counting makes sure the winner is the genuine favorite - minority candidates can affect the outcome but not win.

Having no president means we have no-one with royal power. The winning party elects their leader and he or she can be replaced at any time by vote of the same party. That leader becomes the Prime Minister who forms a \"cabinet\" of other ministers in order to run the country via the public service.

State governments control police forces in their state while the federal government runs a Federal police force for all non state matters. We have only 8 different forces - not hundreds. Voters get no direct say in who controls any of these forces so carrying out unpopular actions does not put such folk in jeopardy.

It amases me how Yanks can imagine their way is better - when proof beyond all doubt is staring them in the face right now.

Yes, even Amtrak (passenger rail system) have their own police force,
who occasionally must defend the choo choos with force, sending
passengers scrambling for their lives:

<https://abc7ny.com/news/amtrak-police-use-taser-on-man-inside-penn-station/1874936/>

We used to call them the \"Choo Choo Cops\" as kids e.g. \"Donnie was
slamming brewskis in South Station and got busted by the choo choo cops\"
(drinking your personal liquor on railroad property or on passenger
trains outside of sleeping compartments is VERY VERBOTEN in America.)

LOL! Here in America we have FREE SPEECH, and an IMPORTANT part of free speech is the desire NOT to speak. Voting is SPEECH - not voting is YOUR RIGHT in America, but, apparently, not in the MONARCHY of OZ!

Realistically, voting by idiots like SL0W MAN just put more noise into the system. If you don\'t do your research you either vote by party or vote randomly.

It falsely assumes the main reason for folk not voting on a given day is a strong desire not to. Hardly ever the real case.

We see voting as a duty and that keeps nearly everyone interested in what is being said and going around them cos they know they have to vote at some point.

There you go again - ZERO CONTENT, just more BULLSHIT!

Or so you\'d like us to think. In reality if confirms that you are too stupid to shut up when you haven\'t got anything useful to say. There wasn\'t much information content in my post, but the fact that you are silly enough to waste bandwidth telling us that you didn\'t like hearing it does reinforce the point I was making.

Even a properly programmed troll program would have shut up at this point, but you aren\'t clever enough to de even that well.

Something that the post hole wouldn\'t understand. There are real PHDs in our military. I new the Nuclear Engineer from the Nautilus. He was aboard the sub when it went under the North Pole. After the service, he worked to train people to maintain power plants.

The US military doesn\'t want or need cannon fodder, like other countries still use. I wonder if the Aussies are issuing NERF rifles to their low IQ troops? Do they still use rubber bayonets? Are their rations still nothing but Twinkies?

It wasn\'t the military as a whole, only the front line cannon fodder, and it was a comment about the US military who pioneered using IQ tests on new recruits.

I did point out that people who scored better were used for more demanding jobs than front-line combat, where they would last longer.

> The US military doesn\'t want or need cannon fodder, like other countries still use.

Everybody has front line troops who are more likely to get killed than people working behind the front line.

> I wonder if the Aussies are issuing NERF rifles to their low IQ troops?

Probably not - I don\'t think they ever did. This is the standard issue weapon today.

Did they ever?

> Are their rations still nothing but Twinkies?

Probably not - that is an American children\'s snack cake and the Australian army would have gone in for something rather more butch.
