When I was single a guy told me I should go on a cruise to meet women,
I was like why I can do that at the beach in the summer for a lot less
money.

Very few successful plans other than transporting goods & the Normandy
invasion ever began with \"We\'re going to need to get on a boat\"

Well, there was the Voyage of St. Brendan. ;)

When I was single a guy told me I should go on a cruise to meet women, I
was like why I can do that at the beach in the summer for a lot less money.

Maybe it\'s best to meet women who aren\'t on a cruise looking for men.

\"Why buy a sailboat when you can throw your money directly into the

I see so many power boats on trailers in driveways that haven\'t moved
in years.

I have one early 20th century ancestor who was lost at sea and another
who was lost but then picked up after several days on a raft, I don\'t
push my luck.

That fits the one on my left. The one on my right uses their powerboat

I\'m too lazy to find the link but the company building the world\'s

they\'re talking about breaking it up for scrap.

Maybe the world has finally figured out how awful cruises are.

When I was single a guy told me I should go on a cruise to meet women, I
was like why I can do that at the beach in the summer for a lot less money.

Maybe it\'s best to meet women who aren\'t on a cruise looking for men.

Very few successful plans other than transporting goods & the Normandy
invasion ever began with \"We\'re going to need to get on a boat\"

\"Why buy a sailboat when you can throw your money directly into the
water?\"

I see so many power boats on trailers in driveways that haven\'t moved
in years.

There are a lot in boatyards too. Eventually the owners don\'t keep up
the rent. Then boatyard people spear them with a forklift and shake
until the engine falls out. That might be worth something.

Mo and I quite like cruises. She likes to go places, I like to find a
sunny place by the sea and plunk there for a week, and a cruise ship
does both. As long as you have a balcony, get the drinks package, eat
in the restaurant and not the upper-deck buffet, and avoid the
\'entertainment\', they\'re mostly pretty good. (You also want to avoid
the overpriced shore excursions, with the possible exception of an
afternoon\'s ride on the White Pass & Yukon Railway out of Skagway.)

You also learn to be selective about where you get off and where
not--Port Canaveral and Freeport are definite stay-aboard stops.

The one place of refuge in Freeport is a Senor Frog\'s bar, which just
goes to show what a hole it is.

Of course the quality of the stops isn\'t what you\'d really like because
they\'re overrun while the ships are there. Being on Cozumel for a week
really shows the difference, and other places are like that too.

Cheers

Fine if you like them, but they have a colorful history of intestinal
epidemics, engine room fires, dead-in-the-water power fails, and
running aground.

Well, sunny places with low GDP per capita tend to have lots of
intestinal bugs, and your probability of getting mugged or shot is a
good bit higher ashore. (There are some third-worldish places onshore
too, unfortunately, but none I\'d much want to visit.)

The running-aground thing is highly correlated with Italians being in
command, I\'m told--the one that grounded earlier this year (Norwegian
Escape) was commanded by Giovanni Cutugno, and of course the Costa
Concordia\'s captain was Francesco Schettino, who is now serving a
16-year prison sentence. Apparently they\'re culturally prone to
grandstanding. (Who knew?)
