Need optical light barrier sensor

Hello all!

For a new project I'm in need of an optical light barrier sensor which
should meet these criterias:

- Detecting range about 120cm
- Detecting cross section about 2-3cm X 2-3cm (outside of this area there
are nearby moving parts on two sides)
- Due to the above requirement the beam should be fairly concentrated
- Should be encapsulated and easy to mount (screws)
- Should be fairly small
- Should work against a reflector in the other end, thus a combined
transmitter/receiver
- If however you a know a receiver transmitter pair that might suit the task
I'm also interested in knowing

If anyone has any suggestions I would welcome them very much. I have looked
at some Sharp and Honeywell sensors but they're not quite suitable it seems.

Why not use a laser diode illuminating a phototransistor? Modulate the
laser if you have ambient light problems, and if you can live with the
transmitter and receiver being at opposite ends of the path you can do
away with the mirror. If you can't, then because the beam divergence
will be essentially zero you'll need to make the angle between the
incident beam and the reflected beam about 1.2° if you want the keep the
sensor separation to 1", which will guarantee you a detection cross
section of less than an inch anywhere in the path.

Some higher performance through beam sensors are available from
Cutler-Hammer Sensors, Sick Optik, Baumer Photoelectrics, and Keyence,
but I'm too lazy to provide you the links.
