Mosfet question

Hi

I am using a n channel mosfet IRF640. The breakdown voltage for drain to
source is 200V. I would like to know what is the maximun voltage that can be
applied to the gate. Is it also 200V as it is not specified in the
datasheet.

Thanks!! in advance

Well, I think you overlooked it then; the datasheet mentions +/-20V as the
absolute maximum Vgs rating, 4V as threshold voltage and +10V as practical
'on' state voltage.

+/-20V relative to the source. And it is on every manufacturer's data
sheet.

It is specified in the datasheet :

Gate-source maximum voltage ą 20 V
Gate-source operating voltage 0 +10 V

Thanks guys. Seem that I need to change my spectacles as I've really missed
the line. :)

Heh, don't let anyone give you a hard time. Most of us have missed stuff and
determined the smoke specs of many parts the hard way.

Try another data sheet!....
The Fairchild data sheet (this is available on the web), gives: Vdgr=200V
