** I have now posted well over 7,000 messages on this NG - commencing back
in April 2001 - that is way more than anyone else has, ever. Any and all
of them make good reading.
So consequently I am the resident " tall poppy" here.
You must know what always happens to them.
Prior to that I posted regularly on the Electronics Australia "Q &A Forum "
where Richard Freeman and I teamed up to answer the majority of technical
queries that appeared.
Unfortunately that EA forum, just like usenet, was not moderated - so it
also allowed any anonymous, ignorant ass who felt inclined to aggrandise
themself ( ie wank off in public ) the ability to abuse and libel the
leading posters at whim.
These sort people are mentally ill and get a sick pleasure out of defiling
anyone with a higher IQ than them or with something valuable to say. Like
vandals do to public property.
As in normal life, there are two possible ways to deal with this:
1. Ignore the harassers.
2. Mitigate the perceived injury by thoroughly outing the harassers as the
intellectual fakes and gutless pricks they are.
Also, and as in normal life, most folk are too timid to take on these kind
of bullies - even when they are the targets of the harassers themselves.
Plus, it is very rare for anyone to publicly come to the aid of someone who
is being made into such a target - lest they also become a target. How
fucking gutless - I say.
This is how all bullies operate and succeed over others - something that
goes on in all walks of life, everywhere and everyday.
So usenet becomes an object lesson in how society REALLY works.
That IS pretty much usenet's only redeeming value.
If one has the stomach for such an unpalatable lesson.
