G'day all,

I'm looking for a 5 core mini-coax to make a computer monitor extension
cable. Pre made cables available are all a bit too short & too expensive so
the answer is to make it, but I can't source the cable.
Belden 1522A would be ideal but Belden Aus have never imported any, anyone
else I should try? I'm after about 10 meters to start with & if sucessful
maybe another 20m, maybe an overseas supplier could help if anybody knows
one.

cheers

build your own? pffft. they're as common as dirt! any respectable PC store
will carry them or be able to order in for you, in up to 20m lengths.

Craig, pre made cables may be 'as common as dirt' but their performance is
also common as dirt - many of them struggle with 800*600 256 colors. I have
a few in the junk box where they belong, the only pre-mades I have that are
actually useable at 1024*768 are a Belkin set which cost $118 for 3
meters... I don't want to know how much the 10m ones are. I'm afraid to say
the cables from Jaycar are rubbish.

Thanks Phil for the suggestion re WES, but I think your prices are a bit
old - they quote $31.50 for the 10m item, which I bought on the basis that I
can afford $31 for an experiment, & they might work.

cheers

I have about 170 metres on a drum of Altinex CB4400. It's not mini Hi-Res,
but it will certainly go the distances you want at 1600x1200.

I also have suitable BNC connectors, but not HD15's.

Some premade cables give fuzzy images, on the other hand I have seen a
very good picture quality on a 30 metre cable so I guess you get what
youy pay for

Newsy, I might come back to you on that one. WES's courier will get me thier
pre-made cable by Monday next so if it works okay I'm set, if not then I'll
be in touch. Thanks for the offer.

cheers
