International editions of electronics books...

These books are printed on cheaper unbleached paper with perfect binding
(that is a type of binding not a comment on the quality) with a thin cover.

Mostly they are sold in India. Does anyone know the best place to buy
them online?

Are they copyright cheaters?

AFAICT it\'s mostly old-fashioned restraint of trade. The Indian
editions are printed on this weird paper with a faint purple
fluorescence but are otherwise OK, and are authorized by the original
publishers.

It\'s the intercontinental arbitrage they\'re trying to prevent.

The online market has still not matured in India except with
products of wide appeal. Many online shops have folded. IMO the
fault lies with both the businesses and the public.

I haven\'t bought technical books online for quite some time. When
I have more time, I\'ll try to find out who are still available
and ship internationally. Right now I\'m heavily engaged in
dealing with encroachers on some land I own in a town 90 km from
here.

Not all of them. Many popular books are legally published as
inexpensive Asian editions, often at a fraction of the original
prices. For example, I bought Peter Norton\'s Inside the PC some
20 years ago for Rs.270 (Indian rupees) when the original price
was Rs.1170.

Usually such editions are released one to several years after the
original publication. The quality varies from excellent to good.
The really shitty ones are probably pirated.

Ouch what a pain - 90km. Probably why they thought they could get away
with it.

I want one which is out of print and out of stock from every supplier I
can find in AU. Plus I saw a couple I am not sure about. Paying 20% is a
good way to preview them

The few Indian editions I\'ve bought are legit as far as I can tell.
It\'s the publishers\' way of making money in a less affluent market.
The restraint of trade part is their effort to keep them out of the
US.

I\'ve bought them on AbeBooks in the past.

As an experiment, I bought an international edition (authorized) from
Abe Books in 2016. It was cheaply made, but adequate. An obscure
chapter or two were omitted. (abebooks.com)

I get most of my books from ABE. (It\'s been owned by Amazon for yonks,
but they seem to have been left pretty well alone to date.)
