normal to buy EDA tools from companies that do not know how to
design?"

EDA programmers only have to know matrix math, and generally not a
thing about EE.

Where they fail is in providing the GUI that EE's like to see.

What works best is an EE harping at the programmer 'til he gets it
right.

I harp at my oldest son to the point that he annotates his source code
with lines like, "Did this because Jim Thompson is too lazy to..."

But I always get what I want, particularly when my son needs money ;-)

We have two utilities now, "Binning" (re-writes netlists to handle
binned CMOS models) and "Netlist Reduction" (evaluates expressions
down to numerics, and changes syntax formats, so other simulators and
layout tools can read the netlist).

After a little more beta testing, these will be available for
purchase.

so the last thing you want is cohesion between the EDA guys :)

Go for it Jim, get those kids of yours writing your pension scheme!

Yep. Right now I have to "talk" to Cadence, IC-Editor, Mentor and
several others for layout; Cadence, SmartSpice, Mentor, and HSpice for
simulators

After a little more beta testing, these will be available for
purchase.

They'll never do it. They created EDIF, by COMMITTEE, guaranteeing
that it could never function.

Hello Jim,

They'll never do it. They created EDIF, by COMMITTEE, guaranteeing
that it could never function.
ROFL!

But it probably does provide a nice excuse for the big shots to go to
the meetings and wine & dine.

No, managers send small shots to those meetings, with strict briefs not
to agree to anything that adds 0.01 cents to product cost, and then get
mad because it takes more than one meeting to finish the task.

A little 'wine and dine' is just compensation for being given impossible
things to do. For long periods. Indoors, when the sun is shining.
Usually without any women to look at.

I don't know, John. How many airplain design engineers have their pilots'
license?
