Gods of EV Charging...

The Gods of Shell Recharging (Previously Greenlots) doesn\'t like me. I am always amazed at how complicated it is to push a button for EV charging.

I carry RFIDs and apps for ChargePoint, EV Connect and EvGo. But in this little corner of Los Angeles, Shell/Greenlots rule. Unfortunately, the app doesn\'t seem to work with my old phones.

So, i am driving 15 miles away every day to a Nissan dealer, instead of the Shell/GreenLots station 2 miles away.

Out East here many of the larger supermarkets have stations. Our
Meijer\'s have a bank of about five spots. Usually a couple are always
taken when I go there.

So certain stores that get a lot of activity put them in. You could
call around to nearby stores like Home Depot, Costco, Lowes, and any
large draw place where shoppers typically spend a long period of time.

Plugshare shows me all available option already. No easy way shorter than 15 miles round-trip. Fortunately, i only have to deal with this for a few days. The problem is having to require \"Shell Rechargeable\" Smart Phone and App to use these LA city services. Why require app to confirm \"intend to charge\", and why require to confirm at all? Can\'t think of a reason that someone would plug it in and not really \"intend to charge\".

Drive 15 miles and then wait to charge? Every day! Why?

I hit any one of five gas stations, on the way to work, about once
every 2 weeks. I fill up in less time than it takes to squeegee the
windows. My credit cards always work at any gas station.

Drive 15 miles and then wait to charge? Every day! Why?

Because i don\'t have the latest fancy phone/app to use the free fast charger a mile away.

Not if Shell gets it\'s way. Credit card is not an option even though charging is free. I am sure Shell gave the city very good deal to lock in EV drivers with their app. The city is doing public disservice agreeing to such arrangement.

Anyway, another good reason to \"Escape from LA\".

Wow, cash doesn\'t work? What about plastic? Are there bathrooms and
other amenities at these charging stops? Or, do you twiddle your thumbs
while the car soaks up charge?

So, i am driving 15 miles away every day to a Nissan dealer, instead of the
Shell/GreenLots station 2 miles away.

I suspect I could find 40 gas stations within 5 miles of my location
ANYWHERE \"in town\". Less than half a mile to the nearest from home.

So, a fill-up is never \"out of the way\".

And, I can go at least 350 miles in \"city driving\" on a single tank.
A bit over 500 if I\'m on the highway.

WITH the air conditioning running constantly (cuz you wouldn\'t want
to be in a car relying on \"open windows\" for cooling when it\'s 105+
outside and you\'re stopped at a light).

Electric sure sounds pretty inconvenient, to me...

It seems to me that some people will spend a huge amount of time and
hassle to get free charging.

Anyway, another good reason to \"Escape from LA\".

I never liked LA. It\'s a flat plane tiled by a periodic array of
apartments, laundramats, and fast food.

The people are plastic too. There is a continuous gradation on the
west coast. The south is vain and superficial, the north is nice and
earthy and boring. The middle is about right.

About right? Are you talking about San Francisco which requires you to have a Street Poop app for navigating the town on foot? The same place that retailers are not walking, but running away from town because of the rampant crime? Let\'s be clear: SF\'s time has come and GONE!

Only tourists go downtown. We don \'t. Maybe things there will improve
after we recall the D.A.

Some day, it might turn the corner with more ev stations than gas stations, then shell would require you to use smart phone to fill-up.

I am not objecting to them having this option, but objecting to it being the only option.
