EEC Propose change to 60Hz, 110V

The EEC Commission has proposed that member states begin research in to the
feasibility of changing the frequency of the mains frequency from 50Hz to
60Hz and from 240V to 110V by 2008. A spokesperson, who didn't want to be
named, said: "Such a move would make it much easier for products made in
Europe to be sold in the USA and other countries that use the 60Hz, 110V
system". The public however may not be so happy as many existing appliances
would need adaptors or adjusting to handle the change. "Many people still
remember the problems that were caused in the UK by the change from coal to
natural gas" said a spokesperson for the Consumer Association.

And today is the First of April.

Why would the greater part of the civilised world want to slip back into
the dark ages?

Or is this another Brussells wank. There have been many others.

And double the amount used of copper and brass, and increasing PVC tonnage
in building-wiring infrastructure to cater for twice the current in every
distribution layer.
