Does S-video cable make a noticable diff in picture quality

I bought a cheap dvd player that has s-video but no "component connection".
Just wanted to know if getting a s-video cable would make enough of a
difference in the picture quality, that I could notice the difference.
My TV has s-video but no "component connection". What does s-video
actually do? Does it improve interference from other electronic devices
dvd?

It's worth trying. The S-video keeps the luminance and chorminance
information separate.

It's worth trying. The S-video keeps the luminance and chorminance
information separate.

which reduces colour fringing & patterning on edges giving a cleaner

looking picture. It reduces interference between colour and brightness
in the video signal itself, does not make any difference about
interference from external sources.

Depending on how good your TV is, you may or may not see a difference.

Normally there is a noticeable difference, especially in the fine details.
If your set has S-Video, it must have the standard composite video input(s).

Component video using the three colour channels is the best. The difference
between this and S-Video is more noticeable on the large screen sets.

I can see a very noticeably improvement when using the Svideo connection on
my Sony XBR. If the set is of decent quality the picture will look sharper
and cleaner. Svideo uses separate wires for color and luminance information
resulting in higher bandwidth and a cleaner picture.
