My RCA RP5010 recorder will record only through a plugin mic, not
through the built in mic. When it plays, then, the volume is very low
even when adjusted as high as it will go. Any suggestions? Barb

Probably a bad connection or bad mic.

Sam...I love your website and it was the first place I looked before
posting to this newsgroup. Could not find anything about digital
equipment but I read about tape recorders, I haven't been able to find
a bad connection anywhere. (What would make a built in mic be bad?)

Not much. You might be able to check by just putting your finger on one of the
mic connections while recording and see if a strong hum comes through. This
would indicate that the electronics are fine but the mic is bad.
