I have a 27' GE model #17gt618 with pip that has some kind of short at
the input of the ant. The picture goes all snowy like the ant. came
unplugged or shorted and has a snowy pic all the time and it affects all
of the other components hooked up in network, vcrs, other, tvs, ect. When
taken out of the loop every thing is fine. When i use the satellite thru
the GE the pic is beautiful. When i opened up the GE it has some kind of
component the the f connector goes into and i suspect a short inside,
shield to inside wire. Has anyone run into this. Thanks for any help

Unless you have LOTS of experience working around surface mount components
with a very good temperature controlled soldering station, do not even
attempt the repair. Way too many unskilled people butcher the job up so
extensively as to make the set non-economical to repair from a cost labor
standpoint when someone who has all the needed equipment actually does the
repair.

If you take the set into a shop that has lots of experience with this
chassis, typical repair cost under $90 total and all the known common
failures are double checked.

See www.repairfaq.org for lots of information on that on board tuner chassis
design.
