What is the typical current of a brand new 9V store bought battery? The
rechargeables come in all different outputs.

The old carbon type 9 Volt batteries were rated at about 100 mA/Hr. An
old germanium type transistor radios using these batteries averaged
about 10 ma to 15 ma of consumption at a moderate volume setting. This
type of battery would run the radio for about 6 to 10 hours depending
on how loud the radio was being played. These radios had about 100 mW
to 250 mW maximum power output to the speaker, depending on the model.

The manufactures started to make the radios with better sound, and
thus, the usuable battery time dropped, because more power was
required for the output stage. This lead to the need for higher amp
hour rated batteries, and thus a larger battery supply.


From my personal experience, the alkeline 9 Volt batteries should be
able to delivery at least 300 to 350 mA/Hr without too much problem.
The chargeables should be able to supply about 450 to 500 mA/Hr. To
confirm this, it would be best to contact the manufacture.
