Without going to the trouble of looking in the RS catalogue, the
connectors are known as 'IDC' which stands for Insulation Displacement
Connector. When making a cable with IDC connectors, you place the
unstripped wires in the connector pin area and force the wires into the
connectors, which cut through the insulation (displacing it) and
locking the wire in place.

To make a cable using this, you need the proper tool (especially if you
want to run data at IDE speeds).

Look in the RS catalog (or try Farnell -
http://www.farnellinone.co.uk/) for data connectors and then for IDC.
Most IDE connectors are listed as such.

Please note, that common IDC cable has a standard pitch of 0.05",
which is not suitable for 2.5" diskdrives as they require a
connector with 2 mm pitch.

Your best bet is to buy a converter kit at your local PC shop.
(Which will set you back some 2 to 5 pounds)
