I have always wondered about the need to angle the radio antanna at 45
deg for FM and 90 deg for AM or SW mode . I would appreciate if
someone can kindly explain the rationale to me. Thanks

** The transmission antennas are polarised differently.
FM is generally " circular " while AM is vertical.

Best ( local ) reception is when the receiving antenna is the same.
Long distance reception is another ball game and polarisation may be
different after any reflection.
