I wish to build a single channel NBFM receiver to operate around 149 MHz.
The XE1218 seems perfect but is a surface mount device. I wish to use a
pluggable DIL chip.
Is anyone aware of one or has any other suggestion, please?

Thanks very much for that. Those chips seem to need much more on the lines
of special supporting components than does the XE1218. I realise that I must
have a crystal (probably 3rd overtone) but any other ideas to minimise the
other specialist parts? Obviously R and C are no problem.
